Default Wanna get rid of my fairing!!

Hi all,

I have a 1999 SV and have some damage on the top fairing. As I like naked’s anyway I want to convert mine. Does anyone know how to do this and what’s involved?
I want to keep my standard clocks though!

Cheers all

I had my SVS nakid with the faired light & clocks. It looks odd and there is an issue with fitting mirrors.

If you want nakid bars you will need to get longer brake lines & possably throtle & clutch cables (depends on height of bars).

If you want to keep the clocks you will need to keep the front subframe which also means you can keep the faired lights. You will need to get some mirrors fitted which can be a problem. You may need to hack the subframe down a tad though.

Can we expand on this?

I am getting in 2 weeks a 2002 SVS that has its fairing cracked. I can replace the full fairing but I really like the naked look better. I am not terribly concerned about the loss of the aerodynamics of it. What I need if possible, and I have been searching on this site and others, is a detailed step by step of this.

I understand I need other gauges and headlights but is there more to it? If anyone has undertaken this process and has some tips and pictures it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

If you still want the clip ons it should'nt be too much of a problem. If you want standard naked bars or renthals you'll either need a top yolk from a naked. Or re-engineer the existing top yolk to take some bar risers. There are adjustable clip ons that you can swing up and out, I think I've seen some photos on the forum somewhere but I think they cost a fair bit.

As for the head lights theres plenty of aftermarket suppliers that do headlight brackets that clamp to the forks, you'll need to look for ones that you could bolt indicators on too.

You might have a problem with wires as on the nakeds a lot of them are stuffed in the back of the head light. I doubt Suzuki would bother with the faired model.

Plus as mentioned earlier you'll need to think about cables and hoses - you might be able to getaway with a bit of re-routing.
