Right, Tony Blair's a lunatic, everything's about to go metric and the UK is funding the madness that is the olyimpic games. Add to this the increasing desire for the government to spy on our every bloomin move and I'd consider skipping this rather pretty little island... so my requirements are:
Somewhere with a decent climate (between the Sahara, and the Antarctic would be nice) Not too many creatures that can kill you in 40 seconds flat if you don't check your boot before you put it on. English as a main language Crime rate low enough to walk to the local pub without worrying about being shot. The occasional nice road. Suggestions? ![]()

New Zealand - fits all of your criteria.
I'm off there next month for a few weeks. Just have to persuade Mrs Wyrdness that moving to the other side of the world is a good idea. Though I think that you'll find that most other countries already use metric. |

TBH I can cope with metric provided it's not forced on me, I think I'd probably buy a bike with a decent kph read out when i got there, if I move to a country that's metric then that's my choice
![]() mmmmm NZ.... nice thought, maybe just a quick reckie first, where did I put that credit card :P

Falkland Islands loosely fit your criteria - naff all on the roads there except the occasional Land Rover or APC!!

New Zealand. I've said it before too. Its the place boys and girls. But hold on there, leave for the right reasons. England is a damp cold grey place. Fair enough ![]() But, Metric??? OK, its like this: Water freezes at 0C. Boils at 100C. You are 37C. That's all there is to it. Meters? Pretend they are yards. Cool and the gang. Spanners? Well, the SV already uses metric bolts. So you are all set. Happy days. (And they are only spying on you to watch your back... ![]() EDIT: Oh yeah. Forget the Falklands. Seriously. Try the Outer Hebrides before you go there. |

![]() May I just say I have no intrest in bringing back shillings, crowns, 7/16th sockets, or working all measurements in Oz, I'm just saying that I'm quite happy with a Mile, and see no reason to tear up all the signs and replace them at huge cost just to please a bunch of toursts for a month, when we could spend it on resurfacing bits of the road network etc... Also I like a pint of milk and a pint of beer! ![]() So far a better case is being made for Nz than the falkland Isles.... ![]()
