Default Black visor - work around

I know it's illegal to have a black visor.

I have a clear visor fitted with a smoke Fog City insert which is dark enough to cope with strong sun but clear enough to ride at night.

Is this not the perfect solution or am I missing something?

Honestly, officer, my visor is clear and therefore legal.

Didnt they recall those inserts a while back?

Or was it only specific make/type?

If it's dark enough to cope with strong sun, then it's not safe at night, in my opinion, of course.
BTW, if you like a lighter tint then there are visors available like that. All perfectly legal and cheaper than a clear visor and a fog city insert.

I've got an iridium visor and a clear visor with a clear fog city.

Personally I've never been pulled for my iridium visor. Its a rainbow effect so its not like it isnt obvious I've got it on. I carry my clear one about in a pouch. It takes litterally two seconds to switch them over on my Shoei. I got stopped by the police the other day whislst wearing it for a random roadside check for tax and insurance the officer that stopped me never said a word about my visor or the race can I have.

Personally I think that with your smoked fog city insert at night then thats asking for trouble. I wouldnt want any tint on my visor once its got dark especially with the headlights IMHO being utter sh*t on the SV in standard form. I think that a police officer would chuck a mental at you if they stopped you at night with a tint on your visor. Technically even tinted inserts are illegal if they dont let enough light through.

Black or chrome by day, clear by night!

I hate riding with my tinted visor on at night when i have been caught out. All i can really see is the bulbs in the streets lights. Its bleeding awful!

I only rode with a tinted visor once at night, so just kept it up.

My iridium tinted visor currently still has the dark Fog City in it as well for when i went to Portugal and to deal with the searing heat and sun.

I've got a legal tint visor and in strong sunlight its rubbish. If you wear a dark visor and carry a clear you should be OK. If you had pinlock fitted you could get a dark insert for a clear visor and just take it out when it got dark.

I've got a light tint visor - it's not strong enough to deal with bright sun, but great on bright days. Not fun to ride in when it gets darker though - I'd stick with a clear visor if I needed it for night riding.

My legal tinted inner visor in my Caberg V2 is plenty dark enough for the brightest, low sun early morning rides. I really don't understand why people need "black" looking ones and suspect that looks play more than a small part in it...
