I paid about that so it seems right. Anyone know how much a 3rd (7500 mile) service is as mine's rapidly getting to that milage?

That's around what I was quoted by 3 dealers when I rang round a few weeks ago. That's why I did it myself.

What was involved, what did they do? I just changed the oil, filter and spark plugs on my Thundercat on Friday, cost me:

£18 for the oil
£6 for the filter
£10 for the spark plugs

And those prices are rounded up

Oh and some time and elbow grease. It's the first time I have ever done this and did it unsupervised (muppet). And it is surprising how EASY it is, the hardest part was getting my fairings off and getting my hands in to do the spark plugs. Used no special tools, got the old filter off by hand. And I tell you what, I can feel a difference, and I can certainly hear a difference with all the popping and crackling as I bang down the gears. Going to change the oil every 4,000 miles myself now and break fluid too.

Get a haynes manual and have a go

I'm new(ish) to biking and have never been naturally mechanically minded. However my cousins husband (GSX-R750) was born an engineer it seems and could build a bike from an early age. He's a good guy to have around because he has give a lot of good advice to me.

Getting to the point, when I asked him about servicing he explained and guided me through certian things I could do myself to save money, and its also good stuff to know anyway. Especially coz I'm keen to learn.

I'm with Stretchie - Get your hands dirty and give it a go yourself. Its surprising how enjoyable it can be.

GET STUCK IN!!!!!

My 4k service cost me £100, however my 7.5k service is due in about 400 miles. Good job I got a quote 1st since they tried to add an extra £20 when I went to pay. Cheeky buggars.

While bike is still under warranty I think I'll leave the servicing to the dealers.

Strewth! Those service costs are approaching Ducati figures!

Come on cough up it can't get much cheaper than thAT ffs! Maybe learn your way around a Hayne's manual from now on as maybe 95% of the service jobs on an SV can be done by anyone that knows the difference between a ring spanner and a ring pull! :P

a ring spanner is on the other end of an open spanner which you can use to bash your beer can open after you bugger up the ring pull

Go back to school young man

You described a combination spanner, not a ring spanner. Try again
