Not had a ciggie since 6pm last night.. seems to be going alright. Had a couple of cravings, but have resorted to lots of water and sugar free chewing gum.
Doing it totally cold turkey, once i can kick the cravings, its just down to habit then. Anyone else done it cold turkey? Any tips? Advise? ![]() |

Don't eat instead of smoking, you'll never lose the weight.
Just post here if you have a bad day! Nutty x |

It'll be fairly annoying for the first month (depending on how strong your brand was).
I found the first couple of weeks ok, but then as I started feeling better (lungs feel free-er) I started wondering why I stopped in the first place and got bored with being a 'non-smoker'. You just have to keep reminding yourself why you've quit (i.e. It REALLY IS bad for you... and you're stopping before it's too late, etc). If you find you can't go cold turkey, smoke silk cut silvers for a few months (its like smoking cigarette flavoured air but you get used to it and eventually smoking anything stronger is really harsh) and then when you quit again it'll be WAY easier. ![]() |

Joe
I have been cig free for about 12 years, but there are still times when that stupid craving comes back. The only way you will ever do it is because YOU want to. I must have failed about 10 times and suddenly woke up one morning and thought I don't want a cig. The difference nobody asking, nagging etc. I didn't view it as cold turkey because I had tried in the past reducing my intake and that never worked. so I knew I had to simply stop. My only problem was mates/pubs. Idiots kept telling me I was wasting my time so just have one. I guess they were on their own guilt trips and knew that they couldn't/wouldn't do it and therefore encouraged me to break. Never did crack My twin Bro has been about 6 years cig free. For him hypnosis did it. I have other mates who fail after 6 months guaranteed. Makes you wonder why after that amount of time. However you do it doesn't matter. What matters is you know you don't need it. It is a stupid receptor in your brain that is asking you to kill yourself. take it one day at a time and tell yourself I will just get through today, then this week, then this month BTW expect a terrible cough to start about 1 week in. It is only your lungs starting to work and clearing out the **** deposited in them, but it hurts

I've quit about 5 years ago, used the governments "New Leaf" program.
This might help http://www.givingupsmoking.co.uk/how...ady_Stop/Stop/ I smoked for 15 years with several years on 30+ a day I found it really hard but I did it in the end. Don't be tempted and get all the help you can. Good luck, |

About a year and a half for me and cold turkey was the way.Mrs B gave up at the same time but used the gum,and she now smokes more than ever!If you use a substitute you remain addicted to nicotine and just kid yourself you have stopped.
After a couple of weeks hard work it's all in the mind.

Stopping is relatively simple....it's not starting again that's difficult.
This works: Throw away all cigarettes at exactly 07.15 am. Then: 1. Eat a breakfast consisting of a large bowl of porridge with three bananas sliced into it, followed by three eggs (any style), six rashers of back bacon, four sausages, four slices of black pudding and four slices of fried bread. Wash down with a pint of orange juice and two pints of water. 2. Have lunch early. Start with three avocados and vinaigrette dressing, then a large sirloin steak (14 ounces plus) with chips, onion rings, tomatos and green beans. Wash down with four pints of Guinness. 3. For dinner, eat a large bowl of spaghetti bolognaise (loads of cheese) as a starter, then two lobsters with melted butter, a baked potato with sour cream and a large green salad, followed up by profiteroles with ice cream or whipped cream to taste, and half a mature stilton with a large granary loaf. Wash down with a good Cabernet Sauvignon (two bottles) and six large brandies. * AVOID COFFEE AT ALL COSTS* Now apply a thick layer of superglue to the lips and retire to bed for eight days. There should have been enough calories in the foregoing meals to see you through that period and the superglue will prevent you from putting a fag in your mouth (no pun intended). When the glue finally breaks on the ninth day, it is unlikely you will ever want to smoke again. |

I did it... found it easy...
3 tips. 1. I had a reason to quit... The money saved meant I could go to OZ for a month. 2. Try a nicotine pen, they suck like hell and after a while you get sick of them (week for me) but it gives your fingers something to do. 3. Don't try to give up in the same house as someone else who smokes. My brother was still on his 20 day when I gave up. I managed it though, might have even made me more determined. |
