Brightest headlamp bulbs

I need some new bulbs for the headlamps. Any suggestions for whats the best, and where from?

Don't go for major high wattage bulbs (80 - 100 watts), they yellw the lenses (apparently).

I have got GT150s and visionplus sidelights - they give an excellent crisp white light, and have a much better range than stock bulbs - highly recommended.

Got Osram silverstars in both SV and GSXR, seem to be very bright and cheap. A good cheap upgrade.

It's not the heat which damages plastic light lenses, it's UV radiation, cheaper bulbs aren't so well UV shielded, this is what does the damage.
Don't buy unbranded bulbs - even of the standard wattage - always get one of the recognised brands.

Also, as RandyO quite rightly points out, higher wattage bulbs get hotter, even if adequately UV shielded to avoid damaging the lenses, the extra heat may damage something else, reflector/bulb holder, in addition more wattage equals greater current draw, possibly exceeding the rating of the wiring, connectors or bulb holder.

Anybody know the answer on the sidelights issue? Only info in the manual is 12V 5W, so nice and handy.

Thanks guys. Helpful, but do I need an H4, or H7 or H3 or what. The Haynes manual doesn't code them this way?

main headlights are H4 for UK spec bikes.
