Default A reminder now some of us have hot weather.

On Saturday I took the bike out to work, lovely morning even at 6am. No big drama....

After work headed to my mates as we were going for a weekend tour. Filled up the tank as I always do, to the neck. Normally by the time I get home (14 miles later) the level is well within safe limits for tank expansion.

But my mates house is only 500yards from the filly. And it's really heating up outside at 2pm. I switch off, get off and pretty much immediately smell fuel. Lots of it!

It's gushing out the filler cap and dribbling down the outside of the tank, onto the frame and bloody near the hot exhaust too.

"Erm....mate. Wanna put yer fag oot and gimmie a hand here?!!!!!!"

The overflow pipe had bunged up with silt and crap over the years and couldn't handle this much at once.

It took us about 20mins to stop the gushing and unblock the pipe. Used a compressor on the overflow rubber tube to blow it back up through the copper pipe.

So....

DON'T OVERFILL YOUR TANK ON HOT DAYS FOLKS!!!!!

What's worse, I did the same thing to a mate's Ninja I borrowed for a run last year. Stripped his custom paint clean off. Sorry Jon.

What a waste of fuel You should have got straight back on and burned it in the engine where it belongs.

Fuel contracts when it's cold, expands when hot.

thats why its better to fill any car or bike up on a night, the fuel is at its thinnest and you can get more for your money,
there has been a survey done if you fill a empty car tank up on a night you can nearly get 1ltr more in.
this may seem tight but how many of you when driving (riding) look for the cheapest petrol stations.
if you can put an extra ltr in your car thats 95p/40 (average car tank) thats 2.5 pence a ltr better off so its worth filling up late at night.
