Which is likely to be more accurate, the car/bike speedo or the speed displayed on the sat-nav ?

Well GPS tends to be more accurate though this is in a straight line as it will mesure the distance taken to get from on poll, to the next poll. Should be better then your speedo as they tend to be +/-10% out. So long as there are not loads of twistys you should be fine with the sat nav.
140-10%=126mph (yes I've gone that fast) |

Having just googled it I would think the SAT-NAV providing.
Travelling in a straight line on level ground, maintaining constant velocity for a few seconds. |
