I changed my front brake pads recently, im fairly sure i did everything correctly!
i have given them a little time to wear in... i first noticed some rust around the contact area of the discs.... ive never seen this before, but didnt worry too much. Whilst riding, during hard braking, or any braking from speed really, i can heat a really 'rough' sound. On visual inspection of the discs, it seems they are getting 'scoured' somewhat. its very even, but im not too happy about it!!!! my discs are taking a lot of wear, and ive got to say, the braking isnt nessecarily any better, the pads are good ones, carbone lorraine pads. has anybody else seen excessive wear like this??? |

I noticed that Carbone Lorraines were noisier than OEM pads, but there was nothing that I would call excessive wear.

The noise is normal. The rust is because the new pads have a different contact area -that's normal too. You'll be getting marginally better performance from the Carbone pads than the stock ones but the calipers aren't up to much so performance increases won't be massive. You will, however, wear the discs faster because that's how higher performance pads work.

I couldn't get hold of the CL pads but have just got SBS dual carbon which I think are very similar. These are supposed to leave a black residue on the disc once bedded in (and heated up), not sure what this does for disc wear but wouldn't have thought it was going to kill them liek the old Dunlopads used to. As for noise, sintered pads can make a sound. Try braking at nine tenths from high speed and if you still can't hear it try just a bit harder - anything from hissing or wooshing to the funny sort of wailing my last set made.
