Slightly OT - replacement R6 key - SV650.org

Hi all,

Shortly before going away to Europe recently I lost one of the two ignition keys that came with the bike.

The R6 has a chipped-key immobiliser system, so you have to use a proper Yamaha key to start the motor (like most cars, not sure about Suzuki bikes though!)

I still have the master key and one original 'normal' key - but does anyone know roughly how much a dealer might want for a new key and programming from the master? I don't want to drop dead with shock if I just call up the dealer and ask!!

Mate of mine paid £225- when he lost both keys for his CBR600RR. Same kind of key I think to the R6, AFAIK.

I asked about this when I bought mine, I don't think its too bad as long as you have the red key.

I thinks its something like £700 for a new CDI etc if you loose the red one.

I don't think it will be much more than about £30, programming the key is a five minute job.

The Hondy HISS keys can be got for twenty-something squids and programming can be DIY if you know how and have a piece of wire and a resistor and one original HISS key.

I'm sure there's a site somewhere you can get the lowdown on this for an R6.

my dealer wanted 50 quid for a honda key.
