Reconnecting exhaust front down pipe - SV650.org

Took the front exhaust down pipe off my bike so I could give it a good clean and polish. It's looking nice and shiny now

Question: Will tightening up the two bolts seal the interface between exhaust and the face of the engine outlet, or is there an exhaust gasket required?
(There didn't seem to be one when I stripped it down but thought i would ask anyways.)

No gasket. It will be fine. Gasket at the otehr end though. As long as its not damaged, it will be fine.

There is a gasket at the engine end. Certainly on a curvy. I used a thin screwdriver to disturb it and then a pair of pliers to pull it out. It discolours with time and just looks like part of the cylinder head. About a fiver from Suzuki or you might try your local parts man as there are pattern ones available. Don't know how good they are. Be very careful sliding the pipe into the rest of the system as that gasket is quite fragile and costs over a tenner to buy and in my experience is a pig to fit.

Yup, definately is a gasket in there. Took me ages to get mine out, I've never bothered to change it since though. It's a compressy-wirey number which really means it should be replaced every time, but I went through a phase of frequent changes and just could not be bothered.

Never ever taken mine out, as i didnt even think there was one in there, nevr caused me a problem, and had my zorst off a fair few times over the years. The one on the collector however, is shagged!

I wish I'd left mine where it was, it was a pig to remove and I don't think I saw any benefit from changing.
