Default Hello! and start trouble :(

Hi all, its my first time here and my first post so you'll have to forgive my noobish behaviour. I searched old threads and found a few topics on the good old starter relay. I think I've nailed the problem down to this but I'm interested in other rider's opinions all the same. Plus it seems to be about £40 for new relay and I don't want to waste my money!

My bike is a dark blue 2004 sv650n, only mod is a high level Scorpion can. I've got some mini-indicators but just had no time to fit them yet

The problem I'm seeing is that when I turn the ignition key the fuel pump fails to pump the system up, it make a sad little attempt of about half a second and stops, the FI light then flashes and there's not a snowballs chance in hell of starting the bike. Under normal circumstances the pump runs for a few seconds and all is happy. After several attempts the problem clears up and the bike starts normally, however it can sometimes take up to half an hour of turning the key on/off before the bike will start.

Is it still under warranty??? If so off to the dealer for you.

If not I'd still chance my arm & head back to the dealer where you bought it & make sure they know you are unhappy.

If the bike is not too far out of warranty & obviously well looked afetr they MAY fix it for you.

heh well its the first bike I've had from new, all the others were second hand but I thought I'd treat myself this time and go for a shiny new bike. Had it two years now and its had all the proper servicing etc at the dealer (and not by me, for a change) only problem is I need this bike for commuting and I'm waiting for that day when it gives up completely and I'm stuck somewhere and can't get home. Its a long story but I can't afford to be in that situation. The dealer I bought it from and all my local garages can't do anything for me for TWO WEEKS at least, they are all booked up or the mechanics are on hols. If I can fix it myself with a half-hour job of replacing that relay then I'll go for that. So anyone else seen similar bahaviour or anyone know for sure that this problem could be caused by that relay?

as a side note I took the seat off and removed the realy, cleaned the contacts and gave it a shake. The problem cleared up for a couple of days. That's what makes me so sure its that. Just figured there are probably loads of people on here that have more experience with suzuki bikes that me (all my previous bikes were Honda).
