Default Are they made of harder stuff?

Just come back from Greece, had a great time. Lots of people on mopeds and bigger riding around in shorts and no hat but I didn't see one accident till the last day!

Picture this, I am walking down the pavement burger in hand in the blazing sun, bike decides to overtake car at the same time the car decides to U turn. It all happens in slow motion and I see exactly whats going to happen, I consider closing my eyes when I notice the rider has his arm through his helmet while he is riding.

Bang he hits the driver door (left hand side) flies over the roof of the car and through the air for 12 feet passing me by as I take another bite of my burger.

He lands with a crunch, looks at me as if to ask 'Am I alive?' Gets up and walks off. Not a scratch, zip zilch.

He must have been doing 40mph shorts and t-shirt with his helmet on his elbow.

Both rented bikes/cars. Are foreigners made of tougher stuff?!

From this, I gather he's just a very very very very lucky man indeed!

If he was a local then not used to the pampering of a nanny sate like the peeps in the UK. Might just make people be a bit more resilient?

Lucky buggar though by the sound of it.

It is realy amasing that the people in Greece (where I am studying at the moment) drive with no protection gear . I am still waiting to see the first accident happen, but you won apperently...

@pingu: where did you go to? I study in Kavala (north of Greece) end next week I will be on Kreta

At last someone asks a good question...

I went for double cheesburger with onions lettuce and a whole load of relish. If he had really injured himself he MAY have put me off my burger.

Glad to see there are other bikers here familiar with Greece. If you go to Crete with the bike and pass through Thessaloniki, PM me with your phone number, maybe we can arrange some short trip.

Riders are resilient in Greece not because they are more resilient on average, but because non-resilient ones perish very quickly on our slippery-as ice roads and the relaxed "accidents won't happen to me" attitude towards driving. I always wear helmet and ride as a complete wuss when in town. It'sstrange, but it's pedestrians what I'm mostly afraid of, as in a greek court when you're a biker, you're guiulty first and you have to prove your innocence later. I prefer 3 broken bones to 5 years in jail...

I like this post. Don't know why, but I do.

And I wish I spoke Greek as well as you speak English.

I'm just in Greece for my studies, and I was not able to take my bike with me so there will be no trip I guess But thanks for the invitation...
