Default bike keeps cuttin out.. HELP!

started my k4 650s up today, drivin to petrol station and the bike just cut out, the speedo and rev counter just stopped and i slowed to standill before giving a huge backfire and stopping. i turned the key off then on and the ignition didnt come on, the lcd stayed off. ( was as if there was no batt) however the bike still started!? i pased it off as a random error but just after startin riding again the speedo was jumping around like crazy it went from 30mph to 6o then to 159! realy random figures and nowhere near the 30mph i was going at. it then settled itself out and run fine for 10 miles or so until the same thing happened again! oh and again another 20 miles later. so parked it up the now. anyone any bright ideas? it sounds expensive! bike has only done 2k. just put a carbon can on it last month. ran fine since today though.

any help would be much appreciated,

cheers

Gracie

Hi Gracie!

I would start with the simple stuff!

Check battery terminals, make sure they are not loose! This sort of thing can create all sort of wierd faults,

Check fuses, have you washed your bike recently? Water ingress into connector blocks that sort of thing!

You see with the later bikes, they need more power to,well, power the electrickery,
so if your battery terminals are loose, then a high resistance is created, causing A,Excess heat in the wiring, and B,Less power to your consumers!

Causing wierd and strange things to happen!
