Default Plymouth megaride.....

Went to this for the first time today - this year was it's tenth run. Got the kids to clean the bike first thing this morning - you can do that because it's Father's day - got me leathers on, donned the old AGV and shoved some rather stylish blue shades on - oh and there were my Sidi's on me feet of course!!

Then it was off to the meeting point at Lee Mill. - a mile or so before getting there, the bike traffic was really getting heavy and it was plain that I was about to be 'part of something'. Well, got to the marshalling point and I was totally gobsmacked - never have I seen so many bikes in one small place - all lined up along the road on the industrial estate - people stood around enjoying the moment - eyeing up some of the hardware - awesome - paid my 2 quid (charity mate!) and parked up somewhere near the end of the queue.

Had a casual look at some of the machinery in my vicinity and in no time were eyes were out on stalks!! MV Agusta F4 (nice pipes!) next to a Benelli Tornado thingy - a smattering of Ducati 996's and a host of others....of course there was the obligatory twonk who decided that his machine would look better on one wheel!! It was funny because we all looked on with same thought - tw*t - he'll learn!

So, at 1140 we commenced the ride to Plymouth Hoe. I joined in with the noisy throng - revving was the order of the day - hundreds of people had come out for the day to see the bikes and were on the bridges and parked in lay-by's on the A38 - waving flags and stuff - amazing - there was a real sense of occasion. Oh, and there he was - twonk boy - on one wheel going down the A38 I had to laugh for the cheek of it considering the police presence.

Any way, got to the Hoe and parked up. The place was mobbed - everybody cheering the bikes as they arrived - there was a big crescendo of applause as 'the monkey bikes' arrived - Brilliant. Had a good look around - I was just awestruck by the quantity and variety of machines. There were the immaculate show pieces and the things held together by sellotape - saw an old Norton, compulsory oil drips on the floor, a right old sorry state - with a half fairing and the words 'Proud Mary' painted on. There were quads, trikes, scooters and just bikes - maybe about 8 to 10 thousand. Brill...and I met a few people I knew (which was nice). Only hung around for a couple of hours - there was other stuff going on up at the Hoe but the eye candy was becoming blinding and I decided to move on.

That was my Father's day - how was your's?!! Oh - and I'm sorry guys - not a single picture - but defo next year - I promise!!

It was pretty good this year.. It used to be better back in 'the day' though as there were fewer bikes and it was a proper 'ride'..as opposed to a carnival procession these days

It's a shame but still an enjoyable event, one of the largest in the country i believe?

Hooray!!..

to be honest, i'm a complete noob and don't really know what i'm doing or where i can find anything, other than basic keyword searches.

I actually joined to see if there were any regular groups/rideouts based in the Plymouth area??!!

After about 6 years of pretty much solo riding I think it's about time to find some like minded ppl...

Start a new thread in 'idle banter' to introduce yourself and then have a look in the South & west Surfers section. To be honest there tend not to be many rideouts down this way but keep your eyes peeled - there's one happening in Dorset in September...
