the bike is a SV650 -01 with 18000 km on the clock.
when the bike is on idle speed and Iīm pressing or releasing the clutch handle the engine sound is changning. the sound is that when you release the clutch handle you can hear a kind of grinding noise. this noise dissappears when you press the handle. it is not much noise but I hear it and I donīt like it. I suspect a bearing. but which? could it be the bearing behind the clutch basket? which other bearings are affected in the axial direction on a SV?? does anyone have had the same problem? thanks Erik in Sweden |

Nothing unusual. The noise changes on just about every bike when you pull the clutch in, if in doubt the best way to allay or confirm your fears is to listen to another similar bike.

As SS says, also the idle quality will affect how much rattle and clatter you hear when you pull the clutch in/out.
Obviously check the oil level first! Try balancing the carbs carefully, and make sure the idle speed is right (1300 +/-100rpm), make sure both cylinders are running properly (check the spark plugs, HT leads, coils etc.) |

the idle speed is 1200-1300 rpm so it is ok
the bike has just been on service (18000 km) and the oil level is also ok. spark plugs should have been checked at the last service. perhaps I should check them myself anyway. this is not the clatter (knocking) from the sprockets inside even though I have that sound also. it sounds like a 2-stroke engine with worn out crank shaft bearings when you alternate between pressed and released clutch. it feels a little awkward that a bike that new should have such a noisy engine. it is much more noisy than my 23 year old kawazaki. |

To put all of your cares behind you I will happily send you a recording of my scoot. Clutch pulled in and clutch released. I feel sure this will make you sleep much better at night.

My clutch does the same. I'm not worried.
