First of all let me just say hello (this is my first post and it might long one as i'm a complete bike noobie).
![]() I wonder if i could pick your collective brains for a few mins, any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated! I'll start at the beginning.... 4 Weeks ago i bought a K4 Sv650s with added lower fairing, it had done 704 miles. The salesman told me he would service, tax it and deliver it. When he delivered it he went over the bike controls and everything basically i needed to know about this particular bike to get started (as you will soon find out i am a complete beginner!). About 2 weeks later i noticed some covered up scratches on the lower fairing on my "immaculate" bike, his words not mine. Silly me for not noticing but it was well covered and i couldn't find any other signs of abuse, after all it's barely run in so i'll let this go. Last week i started to really get to grips with the bike and now that i have taken it over 1000miles (run in) i've started riding it harder and faster, until after one high speed, although short run it starts to feel really rough, the engine is louder and not anywhere near as smooth as it was nor is the ride and it's getting worse ![]() ![]() Now in light of these things i start checking the books only to find it haden't been serviced in the extra day they kept it and the last one was at 350 miles May 05 (704 when i got it and 1000 now). So needless to say i'm not impressed and will be taking it back tomorrow but it would really help me out if i looked like i remotely knew what to ask them about. Any thoughts on whats happened to the engine, and should the brakes be touching the discs while pushing the bike? I really appreciate it and hope to hear from you all soon. |

Its normal to ear a small friction noise from the front ... i asked the dealer the same thing
![]() Don't know about the rough engine , but that isn't normal ! |

I don't think the front pads brushing the disk is a problem, but where are you? Your best bet may be to get somebody near you with more experience to listen to it. They are pretty noisey engines mind.... so where are you? Good LUCK!

Ok, the initial service should be at about 600 miles if IIRC and is basically a check over and oil & filter change.
If the bike's been sat up for a bit the front brake may be binding a little and the dealer should be able to fix this easily (if you can just hear the front barake discs and pads rubbing but not feel them sticking this is normal) Check the oil level 1st of all. (not sure of your level of experiance with this bike) with the bike bolt upright on a flat surface the oil level should appear between the F and E marks on the sight glass at the right hand side of the engine base at the back. A mate holding the bike level while you check is the easiest way.

The oil is at the right level, not sure how old it is, but the roughness started after i had a blast up to about 125mph which is why it has gotten me worried, it makes a much rougher noise and feels rougher to ride, esp at low speeds, however i can't really hear it at speed because of the wind.
I was planning to empty the fuel tank and fill it up with super instead of premium unleaded in case it was something that simple, but that fact that it's getting worse and the lack of a number plate makes me think i'm better off taking it into the dealer and having a word, especially in light of my discovery that they didnt service it. As for the brakes, they never seemed to stick on at all till now but it is only just touching the discs, making it a little tougher to push but not different to ride. P.S i live in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. |

Its not due another service until 4000m. It sounds like its had its first service done at 350 miles just over a year ago - which means it should have an annual service done by now - which is just Oil change and a check over (for that mileage).
I very much doubt that the age of the oil would cause you any problems. Did you check the oil level with the bike cold - stood upright on a flat surface?. Are you sure they didnt do the service?. Sometimes they ommit to stamp the book. Anyways doubtful that is the problem. What exactly do you mean by rough?. Noisey..ie rattle or missing?. It could just be that the engine has loosened up (they are quite tight for the first 1000miles). If its a rattle it could be cam chain noise or check that no fasteners have come loose on the fairing etc that could cause a vibration. Is it still under warranty?. Warranty runs for 2 years from date of registration which will be the date on the V5 or in your service book. Id book it in to be checked though if your not sure. |
