Rear brake questions

Are most suzuki master cylinders the same as the curvey SV's?

I've never had enough power in my rear brake, not even enough to make it skid So i'm thinking of overhauling but can't afford the time the bikes off the road so i'm on the look out for a second hand one

I felt that about mine

A good lubing and fettling of the rear caliper sorted it

Really!? I have no problems getting my rear to lock (under control of course!) and that was completly stock - pads, lines and original fluid. Are you sure checking the pads and giving it a good clean and bleed wouldn't sort it out?

Sounds bloody likely to me.

I know for a fact that I've got air in mine and it'll still happily lock the rear wheel.
The master cylinders seem to be the same as the K series GSXR, so I suspect that most are the same.

over hauled the caliper twice (with new seals), clean it regularly, got HH pads and a new(ish) wavey disc, new stainless braided line and obviously fresh fluid which I've bleed 3-4 times (through my stainless nipples) which only really leaves one other component before i ditch the caliper for another


EDIT: So what model suzuki calipers will fit?

given the disc suface is good, the pads are beded in, the hose is sound and the caliper has been properly overhauled, it leaved two possibilities, the first is your master cylinder seals have gone or you're having problems bleeding the system.

Whilst the first is possible it's not a normal ware point and easily checked when bleeding the brakes, the second however I've had many cases of people having bled their brakes several times, but still unable to do it properly, after being shown, they have been able to solve a problem they thought was something else.

Just for ref, my 02 never had a problem with the rear master cylinder or caliper, in fact I had a braided rear line but never needed to fit it, good wash down thoughout winter and didn't even need a rebuild for it's 154,000 mile life (currently on my brothers SV for the last 8,000 miles).

Oh yeah, Mine locks up fine, so perhaps a complete overhaul/bleed??

Sure your pads are OK? My rear brake is hopeless but from the splatters over the disc hanger I'd say I over lubed the chain last time and I've probably wrecked the pads.

I've always found the rear brake on the SV to be first class, and the wheel can be locked very easily. So as others have said, there's got to be a fault somewhere.
