right, long story, about a month ago, a certain CBR was written off due to front end damage (was chucked under a car)
now, we have rebuilt the bike, streetfightered style. the damage was all the front end was gone, plus a cracked gen cover. when taking it out for its first ride since the accident, it was revving normally, then while riding the bike, it would start to stutter and bounce all over the place when opening the throttle for hard acceleration. but was fine under normal acceleration. kinda like it was running out of fuel. then after a few mins of cruising, it started doing it again on a steady throttle, then it died and wouldnt restart. it was revving normally before it took it on the road that day. and we kept it running for a while at idle, giving it the occasional rev every now and then to test the radiator and fan units. now the starter motor spins, but it just wont fire. any ideas where to start looking ? i was playing around with the headlight wiring, splicing em and trying different lights , would that have anything to do with it ? oh and its a 98 carbed CBR, the bike was left on its side for a few days after the crash. |

I take it you've flushed out any old congealed petrol that's in the carbs. Could be that some old jelly petrol is stuck in the carb needles or something.
If it was running normally under a light load, then you induce hard acceleration and it starts dying, I'd take a look at the carbs, strip them down and see if there's any blockage in the main jets. Was there a race can fitted to the bike or was it a standard can?. It may need re-jetted to suit if a race pipe was fitted. Check the air and fuel intakes to the carbs. If they're blocked in any way, they won't pump petrol to the spark plugs. Also check the wiring looms for any chaffed / burnt out wires. Also investigate the ignition coil. It may have packed in, and won't be sending the "start the engine" message to the engine. |
