Default Lowering my SV650s

Hi

I am new to the world of SV 650 so please be gentle. I am trying to lower the bike as I suffer from ducks disease (small legs), I have been informed that the dog bones from a GSXR (2004) will lower my bike by 1.5 inches could anyone confirm this or is it nonsense?

I have been offered a used set for £25 but I am not sure if this will fit my bike which is the K3 model.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Robin

Welcome to the forum.

My bike is lowered, I got the seat scooped out and dog bones specially made, front forks were dropped through the yokes. Dunno about GSXR bones

K3 650 seats only fit k3 650 bikes, according to posts on here. So make sure it's from the same year bike and not the 1000.

Hiya, there are plenty of SV-specific longer dog bones to drop the back down (Longer dogbones lower the rear, shorter ones raise it) Lowered seats are a good way to go. The front yokes on an SV can be dropped between 10 - 15mm down the forks to level it out a little, we found 20mm on the K5 SV650S was too far and the forks were touching the bottom yoke when fully compressed. I would say 15mm *should* be ok, there's certainly a little room left with them at 10mm.

Please make sure you set the preload properly, there is a tendency when lowering a bike to "back the suspension off" by taking all the preload adjusters to their lowest setting. It makes the bike handle very poorly and doesn't give nearly as much ground clearance as you'd think.

*edit* I can't see from your post exactly which SV 650 you have, putting up year and S or naked will have an impact on available parts.

How much did the bandit mania dog bones lower the bike.
I dont wish to be personal but my inside leg is 29" and I only need it dropped about 1 - 1 1/2"?
I dont really want to lower seat.

The benefit of fitting a lower seat is that it takes but a moment (and no specialist tools or stands to fit) and doesn't mess up the geometry of the bike (Which dogbones will) If you fit longer dog bones it alters the handling.....

When I bought them they were £35, and I think they lowered the bike by about 1½". I've an 29" inside leg too, with the seat sculptured, I can get the soles of both feet on the ground.

Yup, like Jambo says, better to lower the seat than the bike. Believe it or not, it'll even be more comfortable if it's a low gel seat.

I concur, worth trying this first, my new lowered gel seat, is much more comfortable than the original.
