Default Nagai (Forum Member) Caught up in the Greek Forest fires

It's true folks

Got a call about 12 O'clock midnight last night from Mart.
Him and his girlfreind are both fine, they had a bit of a panic rushing to the beach.
They ran from their hotel with just their passports, they've spent the night on the beach with thousands of others.
No electricity within the area, so very caotic.

They're expecting a flight home this evening.

Ooop,

Glad they're ok but it'll be the most talked about part of the holiday by far

Default We're back....

Well, we both made it back in the same amount of pieces as we left! I think it may have been the copious amounts of factor 30 that saved us! It was a rather cool (sorry!) experience, and not as ascary as you would think judging by some of the accounts that you will have seen in the papers and on the tv. My favourite has to be the one that describes it as being "straight out of the film Titanic, with panicked people everywhere flailing about in the sea". Unless there are two Haniotis' in Greece then there must be a touch of drama Queen about that report! The beach was relatively calm after the majority arrived down there. Everyone just sat down on the sand (some broke the padlocks on the sun loungers and they disappeared quickly(I think that was mainly blonde haired blue eyed people called Fritz)), and took photos, drank water and waited to see what would happen. Although we heared no instructions from police or fire brigades while we were down there, after the sky went dark again and it looked like the fire had passed, a lot of people walked back up to see what was left of their hotels and posessions. It was a lot calmer than you would have expected, and I'd imagine more people were injured from panicking and running under cars etc than from the effects of the smoke or fire. But as anyone who has witnessed the way that the Greek people drive on a normal day, you would have loved the dodgem style movements that they were using to get out of the town! Loads of newish cars covered in dents and scrapes and scratches. But the strangest sight for me over the week was seeing only one biker wearing a lid! It's bizarre to see GSXR thou's and blades flying past being ridden by lidless riders!

I'll post a link to my pics when I stick em up on Yahoo later.

And someone ask Mass what was on Channel 5 when I spoke to him on the phone...
