Default Just a few from today's trip to Rhayader

Went to Rhayader this morning with darylB. Fabulous ride - the best bit is from Newtown through Llanidloes and on to Rhayader on the A470. What a terrific road that is.

I meant to take more pix but Daryl had my camera in his back pack. Anyhow the bikes at Elan Valley Visitor Centre:

and this is the sort of scenery:

Some pillock in a Mk IV Golf GTI nearly took Daryl out - D was in front of me and went to overtake the Golf, a milk tanker, and a Discovery towing a horse box. It was a long overtake but the road was as clear as a bell. Daryl started to pull out - and the Golf went too. My heart went to my mouth, I was sure there would be a collision. Saw Daryl's brake light come on, he managed to keep the bike upright. But it was so close. The Golf driver did look - whether he saw or not, who knows.

Lovely place My g/f's Mum and Sis live nearby, and yes, I can vouch for the mad Welsh rally drivers (Mind you, I've seen just as many loony bikers round that way )

Great place to visit when it's been raining

If you had stayed in Rhayader for the afternoon you would have seen the red kites collecting for their daily feed.

http://www.gigrin.co.uk/red_kite_feeding.html

On a good day they get into three figures. And with the crows, ravens and buzzards, its spectacular. a tremendous way to spend an hour or two.

And just to think at one time the kites were as common as pigeons in town.

It wasn't that close. i was at least 6 inches off his bumper when he decided to pull out and indicate at the same time, obviously couldn't see me cos of the 2 mountain bikes on the back of his car!. luckily i had half expected him to do it but was just a tad surprised when he did. He didn't stay in front of me for too long though

was a good ride though, undertaken by a highly respectable solicitor chappie and me in tow. roads are superb around there and the elan valley is very scenic.

Daryl.

p.s. the visitor centre does good coffee and cakes as well.

the A470 is a good ride all the way from down here to up North.... further up from Rhayader.. cant remember name of place, theres a really horrendous corner if your not expecting it that goes over a railway bridge... two very sharp 90 degree corners straight after each other.... bit of a shock when you go into those too fast!

I think we shall have to arrange some form of get together at somepoint.. Rhayaders only about an hour or so away from me....

Correct, it's between Caersws and Llanbrynmair. Horrid double bend.

VB - I shall take you up on that. Rhayader is about an hour and a half from here.

Daryl - from behind it looked oh-so-close. I really thought you were toast.
