If you are talking about acustic then, realy you need a acustic pickup that you can then use to jack into your line in on the sound card.

Some of the pickups will have a XLR or 1/4 jack, you may need to get a convertor for it. You may find it easier to get a mini mix desk so you can adjust (EQ etc) the input before recording.

Look at these
http://www.dv247.com/invt/3320/ (acustic pickup)
http://www.dv247.com/invt/31558/ (basic mixer)
http://www.dv247.com/invt/31551/ (basic mixer with USB soundcard)

Thats the basic, but then it gets more complicated with balanced and unbalanced inputs/outputs which dont need to worrey about at the start.

It depends how much you want to spend.

I have an M-Audio jamlab and it does the job. It was about 50quid, plug your guitar stright in and this box into the usb port. Also has AISO drivers (so basically you can apply effects in real time)

If you have more money then you have guitar rig 2 - which is a full amp/effects sim with peddle board. I've had a play with it, fantastic, but at 300quid its pricey.

M-Audio also do m-box which is packaged with protools le, this is better if you want to get some studio time eventually and mix it with the real protools. But i've never tried this.

Hope that helps.

Edirol quipment is the same as M-Audio but tends to be a little cheeper, and Edirol stuff used to be linked to Roland. So all in all not bad for what it costs.

The good thing is that they have balanced inputs so gone with the hum etc that you sometimes get with unbalanced.

If you are ever going to use condenser mics for anything, get a mixer/soundcard that has a phantom mic connector, it will power the mic and save you having to get a seperate power injector box.
