Why do some people put a sweat band on their front brake reservoir?
I thought it was just a style thing, but I think I just saw one on a moto GP bike. |

yes it's to stop spillages. It's a pro racer thing. you get one free in this months fast bikes mag
or you could just not do it, it serves no purpose for the the road bike at all extremely unlikely to get any leaks while riding normally. Unless you forgot to do your cap up. |

I have read that it is also to prevent the fluid to "brake" because of the sunlight...

One of the crescent suzuki bods says it's because if brake fluid manages to get out (as it sometimes does) and winds up on the windscreen, the racers think it's raining and slow down.

Or it might be that racers are harder on their brakes, fluid gets hot, expands and sometimes leaks. Brake fluid is very corrosive, get it on paint or plastics like a visor and its blurred vision time, again not good if you are racing

In the early 80s there was a small fashion label called Henry Robert Cuthbert inc. This man was one of the first pioneers of the "80s sweat band" and has produced over 10,000 mini wrist sweat bands to take the market by storm when the lawyers at Honda Racing Corporation got wind of the logo printed sweat bands. A lengthy and terrible lawsuit followed before their release with the eventual conclusion being that Honda won all 10,000 sweat bands and Henry Cuthbert's fledgling fashion label went into receivership without ever releasing a sweatband.
This left Honda with 10,000 small bands and no genuine use for them, however, they have been using them up, a few dozen a season ever since. FACT

In an incident at around the same time Suzuki ordered 100,000 Litres of lightweight fork oil due to an admin error. They have managed to get rid of it over the last 20 years by adding 1Litre to each bike it's produced, regardless of spring rate or valve settings within the forks
