Thinking about removing exhaust so that I have access to the rear downpipe and awkward underside for cleaning/polishing. According to haynes manual looks resonably straightforward.
Has anyone any experience of this? My brother has told me not to bother just for cleaning as when he did this on his old CB500 the bolts into the cylinder head snapped. However the front downpipe bolts on mine (SV650SK3) don't look badly corroded or anything. I only want to do this to get the usually inaccessible parts of the exhaust nice and polished (I hate rust!) Good idea or is it likely I will regret starting this? |

not sure if the pointy is the same, but you only need to undo the stub pipe clamp on the rear cylinder and not the bolts, so should be easy enough.
Cheers Mark.

go for it mate, if they look ok as you say then you shouldnt have any probs
soak them 1st big time with wd40 then be really carefull when trying to remove use hex sockets if you can (have never removed mines so dont really know if there's room etc) and if you feel anything twisting (rather than a "crack" then looseness) then STOP let us know how you get on |

cheers,
I think I will give it a go and do as you say - spray loads of wd40 or acf50 on them the day before. |

ACF50 probably won't help you get them off, it's designed to stop corrosion. WD-40 will help but Plusgas is probably the best stuff for the job.
