Default Need help finding very flash "moving" custom wheel

Hi All,

I remember seeing a website a few months ago where they were selling very flash wheels for custom bikes.

The wheels were basically made out of lots of small gears that meshed in with each other so that when the wheel was spun some of the gears went one direction and some the other (I think the engineering term for this kind of system is planetary gears). They had some wicked videos of the wheels which really showed just how special they were (from an engineering point of view - a bit too much for a bike I think)

Can anyone help me find the website? I cannot find it using Google - I suspect becasue I am not using the correct search terms.

I think I saw it originally on American Chopper (sorry to swaer on this board)!

Thanks Carsick, but not really what I was looking for.

The ones I wanted were the ones that are made purely for asthetic purposes - they look damn flash but serve no useful purpose.

Similar idea in mech terms to the reverse rotors but with far more gears.......the rim is actually attached to a non rotating hub via the gears...... eg the gears serve the purpose of the spokes (to hold the rim off the hub) and the rotating aspect of the hub (eg the hub has no bearings in it, the rim rotates around the hub)

Or will it go the way of hub-centre steering and Tele-lever suspension?

If it does what he says then racers should be very interested.

no I dont want them! - they would look cr@p on an SV

I want to show them to a mate who would be very interested in them

£2000 is a figure I remember, so we must be thinking of the same thing, but where to find them?

They were definitely American.....

that link is so funny, the science they're applying is half right. But they're completely misunderstanding how gyroscopic forces work! they claim a bike isn't stable even at speed....erm yeah thats why i keep my foot down while on the motorway. By having reverse-spinning brake discs they're not decreasing the gyro forces acting on the bike at all, it works the same way whichever way the wheel/brake disc is spinning (if the force acted in one way only a regular bike would tip over). So all they're doing is adding weight to the wheel with the gear system they made, which increases the inertial forces, which makes their wheel harder to turn.
anyway...
yeah they were in mcn on that double page with all the new gear. they looked impressive- but as an engineering feat not a mod! you searched www.motorcyclenews.com ?

Don't dismiss their science without at least doing a very simple experiment, perhaps with 2 bicycle wheels on a common shaft.

Their science seems to woffle a bit granted.

In my non-scientific eyes I just read:

Bike wheels have gyroscopic forces.
Counter rotating break discs have gyroscopic forces
We are using one to semi counteract the other.
'Steering' becomes lighter.

These on carbon wheels would be sweet!

You could end up with a negative gyro force - eg the forces are as if the whole wheel is going backwards - WTF would that do to the handling

Now, are you gonna stop hijacking my thread and help me find what I actully wanted
