Default bike storage

I am about to buy a bike storage but cannot decide between two of them.

Option 1: Secure-a-bike supplied by Motorkluis. (NL) for £1,825

Option 2: Bike Safe from Scooter store Ltd. £1,520

Both seems well made and attract substantial insurance discounts. Prices include delivery and assembly charges.

Do any of you guys have any experience with either of the two products?

Sorry no personal experience of these I'm fortunate to have a garage, but a chap just down the road from me has something similar - "Bike Barn" unfortunately it says so on the outside - thus advertising what's in there. If either of these is the same make sure you can paint it out or buy the other one.

the only thing i would say is what about a shed?

I built a metal shed that OK could probably be opened with a can opener but still gave me the insurance discount, even if they didn't, the money saved on the £1500 i guess could off set the insurance discount or lack of it?

the shed ill be buying and building will be about £500 that's a grand cheaper, (2 and a bit years premiums excluding any discounts for it being in a garage?) even if u threw in an alarm youd still have enough for a years premium (guessing ins cost here) and a shiny extras?

Just my 1 pence.

I couldn't build it even if it was made from LEGO never mind metal shed. Plus I need it now. My Hornet is resting at friend's garage 1 mile away which stops me staring at it admiringly all day along.

I picked up a bikesafe store off ebay about this time last year for £300. Took a bit of moving mind as I had to collect it, but good for keeping the bike in now I've got round to rebuilding it!

I went for the Barn at £200 plus 8 patio stones so I could put it in the garden. With a decent chain and anchor the whole lot comes to around £350 and can easily be moved with you if you move house.

It does say "bike" barn on the side although I have still had people ask me "whats in there mate?"!!

They could just lift up the condensation flap and see in although I lock my barn down so they can't lift the main thing up.

It is far easier to get the bike in and out compared to a shed or safe and the material is proper tough so it doesn't eventually leak like a bike cover.

I had the security argument on another forum, if I wanted to nick your bikes then me and a couple of mates would just beat the cr*p out of you when you get it out of the garage or break in the house and nick your keys... Anyhow to get in mine you would have to saw through 3 metal bars (or smash the padlock) and then smash the lock or anchor which would be a lot harder than getting in my garage or shed.

With a four figure budget though you can get one of the larger bike-safe's which gives you easier access - tight access was why I didn't get the small one. Having looked at these things I'd say get the larger bike safe.

I am already thinking ahead of my 07 SV in the spring and have thought long and hard about security, the usual alarms, chains and anchors, but its at night I want (or should I say need) more.....

Some alternatives!

http://www.motoeurope.com/bikesafe.html#price

Others on the site are quite good too!

Keep the forum advised on which one you choose
