I think the fact that you're having to adjust it after every ride would suggest it's shagged..................unless you do a 1,000 mile commute every day

The other thing could be that perhaps you are over-tightening the chain to start with. How many miles has the chain done? On our curvy we still have 5 and a bit marks showing and that chain has done 12,000 miles.

Has it got any tight spots? ie turn the wheel check it then turn at bit more check again! is it slacker in different places and can you move it from side to side? also one way of checking if it is ****ed is to pull it away from the rear sprocket and if you can see more than half a tooth on the sprocket it is past its best!

Don't forget you should check your chain with someone sat on the bike!

If you are tightening the chain every time you ride, then as Lissa stated, the chain is goosed and goosed big time. I would be very very wary of riding. The chain could snap at any time.

Also Lissa mentioned over-tightening. This sounds quite likely to me. I would hazard a guess that you are adjusting the chain to tight. You need to tighten the chain to the tightest part of the chain. Spin the rear wheel checking the chain tension in several different places, I'm sure you will find "tight spots". It's at these points that the tension should be adjusted.

Bought the bike (yellow K1 curvy) 2 yrs ago with 6K on the clock - after being immaculately maintained by its only previous owner. Now done 11K. In that time I have never adjusted the chain. Still got exactly 6 marks showing with no tight spots or stretch. I have to say that by now I was expecting to have to at least have to adjust it - but nop !! Should I be concerned?
I suppose the above could be attributed to (1) Obsessive and regular cleaning (Paraffin) / lubing (2) Not too much violent acceleration and finally (3) treating all mechanical components with the respect they deserve - the hard shoulder of the M5 is a lonely place in Feb !!

I think chains have case hardened pins - when this wears through they'll slacken really quickly. Cheaper chains have less hardening - had a triple S which wore quite fast until about half way back the adjusters then wham! nearly every 25 miles it needed adjustment in spite of loads of lube.
P.S. were you in Monmouth today Hovi5?
