Default Pointy snorkel removal

Hi,

Has anybody ever removed the snorkal from the front of the airbox on a pointy? I did mine yesterday and it certainly seemed to go a little better, but that could just have been the huge noise coming from under the tank

yup!

replaced it with a snorkel from a sv1000 - straight swap, but bigger.

Pro's

More air into the engine, so in theory a bit more power out of it
More induction noise (if you like that sort of thing)
Engine shouldn't need re-mapping, although if you have an aftermarket exhaust it might be a good idea - mine used to 'cough' a bit around town when coming off the throttle at the lights

Con's
More induction noise (if you don't like that sort of thing)
On a naked, the filter can be a bit exposed to the elements, especially if you've raised the tank a bit

The snorkle is easy to take out, and can easily be refitted. Give it a go

I removed the snorkle on mine and put some mesh accross the gap to stop any big debris disappearing down there, then fitted a K&N filter & it worked great without the need of a re-map

Think I will. I have a Scorpion without baffles on mine, will the fuelling be affected much??

Did exactly the same and also fited 8mm tank raisers to allow even more through. I have remapped mine with a PCIII USB just to sort out the air/fuel mixture due to the snorkel removal, tank raisers, k&n and the full micron system. Sounds awesome and power matches the sound!!!! Next im either thinking about removing the airbox lid totally or doing a sort of forced air jobbie with vaccum cleaner hoses like on the old ZXR's.....

I had mine remapped as I have a full system. Much smoother and flatter torque curve. That plus a throttle balance totally transformed the bike!

Well, I've taken the snorkel off and it does sound a tad better whilst in the garden. Looking forward to taking out for a spin to see what the noticable difference is....

Tried removing mine but seemed to loose a bit of low-mid power so I've put it back on. The bikes currently running a full micron race beta with a std map so I think it made it run slightly lean. I'm going to do the 5 degree advance, iridium plugs, TPS, snorkel and tank raise then take it to get a balance and remap.
