There are two ways to qualify with the ASI:
  • Study full-time before starting work in building surveying. This can be a subject related degree or HND/HNC

For more information about training to be a Chartered Surveyor, contact the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Degree courses are listed on the UCAS website (www.ucas.ac.uk)

Yes, Baph is right - of course .

Do you have any options regarding qualifications in these job ads? I'm an RICS member but its a bum org IMHO £450/year for five letters!! MRICS (Just because its well known)

You could consider the Association of Building Engineers (ABE) member = MBEng - their route to qual is easier to follow, more pertinent and practical based. have a great training/CPD seminar programme and its cheaper though not sure how much. I have training affiliation so get 10% discount.

Also CIOB - Chartered Institute of Building - up and coming IMO will be very pro in near future.

Depends what type of surveying you're in I guess.

cheers

doesnt actually apply to what im looking at doing but seems to be mentioned as a prefered option in some job descriptions (project managment)

If they are prepared to support APC they are mor elikley to support other forms of training too in my experiance.

Cheers
Again
