Default Can a curvy clutch cover be replaced with a pointy one?

I have a pointy clutch cover that I want to put on my curvy engine to rid me of the hell im currently having with warped plastic clutch covers and leaks. Can I just remove the existing one and bolt the new one on? They look the same apart from the plastic cover on the curvy.. I know the oil level eye is a different height so does that mean I will no longer be able to rely on the level shown????

Any help greatly appreciated.

Chris

The pointy doesn't really have a clutch cover, the whole side comes off. But maybe you knew that, I think. Personally I'd be a little surprised if it works, but I've been surprised before.

I was figuring on fitting a Woodcraft billet cover to mine when I had the warped cover issues, then I thought sod it and universal blue'd the o-ring. No leaks now. It's a horrible bodge but who cares, when it works?

Yeah I know the pointy right hand casing is all one unit, thats why I was going to try using it, my cover is so warped it wont even seal with hermatite and finding a plastic cover that isnt warped just doesnt happen. Thats why I was hoping somebody had done this mod as it seems quite a good fix providing it works....

I do similar to northy and use dowcornings auto gasket silicon sealent, works a treat

Putting a pointys cover on would be a pain as servcing the clutch would mean having to buy a new gasket every time, losing some oil and making a mess and just crap cause its a pointys why ruin your loverly black engine anyway

Are you sure the covers warped?

This is the first I've heard about leaky clutch covers! I just noticed a leak from mine the other day. It's not been ridden for a few weeks (damn Canadian winters!) and it's just started to leak while it's been parked. I guess blue silicone will be as good a fix as anything.

I didn't realise this was a common fault either, mine started leaking this week. I was going to take it back to the dealer under his "3 month Warranty", I might as well buy some gasket sealer then & save myself some time

Make sure there's no corrosion or bubbled paint on the engine casing and use a new 'O' ring, and then - most important this - don't overdo tightening the bolts.

FWIW, I reckon the pointy case will fit, obviously you'll need the whole right side casing, and I think, (unconfirmed), that the water pump differs slightly, so your one won't go into the new casing. This really would be overkill though, your existing plastic casing is so soft that it really doesn't matter how pi55ed it is, if the faces to seal are clean and smooth, and the bolts aren't overtight it won't leak, I've fixed several with persistent leaks and replacement has never been necessary.

My plastic cover was supposed to be round, it looked hexagon - warped? lol
Also I just really don't like the way they have used tophats to stop people overtourqing the bolts because im sure these stop it being held fully flush. Clutch servicing wont be a problem as it does not need to be done frequently and I would change the oil / coolant when I did it anyway. The water pumps are the same as I have already fitted it to the new cover and Ive sprayed it gloss black I didnt leave it silver lol Ive asked a few people here and there and it looks like my plan may just work, as soon as my gasket is delivered i'll let you know...
