I've finally rebuilt my girlfriends bike after binning it big style last year. My only concern now is that the lockstop stub was snapped off the frame in the crash. The bike is a naked curvy and it doesn't affect the lock of the bike in any way. The bars stop exactly where they did when the stop was there with plenty of clearance between bars and tank. The bike was TPFT insured so has no record on insurance. Is the lockstop a legal necessity for the MOT?
Cheers Chris ps frame has been confirmed straight |

I think as long as the bars stop before the tank, and this distance is equal on both sides you will be fine.

Yes it is needed and will fail an MOT with out, however I've seen a couple with either weld added or a hole drilled & tapped with a bolt srewed in to use the bolt head as the lock stop.
Cheers Mark.

Just put something very temporary there in place, if its stops the bars hitting the tank then they cant fail it, whether its a temporary thing or not.

The bars don't go anywhere near the tank anyway. There must be enough of it left to still stop the bars in the original position. I've tried pushing the bars against what's left of the stop to see if it will go past but there's still plenty of resistance there, it just looks crap cos you can see there's a chunk missing.
Mark, the 'Bollox' was an expression of disappointment rather than a disagreement ![]() I'll sort something out even if it's a bolt with a blob of chemical metal to neaten things up. I have a mate who's an ally welder but I want to MOT it soon. I'll be riding it this summer as the SP2 is going cos I'm skint ![]() |

As others say it will fail. but ask yourself, do you want to ride a bike with a bust lock stop?. what happens if you go down and your hand is stuck between the tank and bars?. I know unlikely and a perfectly good lockstop could break under crash conditions doing exactly the same anyway. But, it is easy to fix, doesn't cost the eath and is for your own safety, protects the bike from bar/tank contact damage etc. So why compromise. Just fix the damm thing.

What if it catches on the defective lock stop while you're riding? Nasty I imagine!
