I was wondering if any of you had good or bad things about nitrogen filled tires and if you would do that.

Nitrogen is more stable than air alone. You'll experience less air loss over time (something to do with the size of nitrogen molecules being less easily passed through the rubber. Although air consists mostly of nitrogen, your tyres lose pressure because the other molecules - carbon dioxide, oxygen, whatever - pass through the tyre wall with greater ease) and there'll be less fluctuations in tyre performance during riding as nitrogen is less reactive to heat than air.
You won't get any real benefit from this or even notice anything unless you're faster than Rossi though, the gains are so small, even at levels of riding of top racers, using nitrogen is a tiny, tiny edge. But it's worth having to make people who put crappy old air in their tyres feel like they're out of touch. |

If you can get them filled cheap then there's no problem, it's better than normal air as it doesn't expand as much when heated.
I wouldn't bother for a road bike and anybody I met who told me he filled his road bike's tyres with nitrogen I would think was a bit of a ****. |

If I put hydrogen in my tyres would it make my bike lighter?

The main reason tyres are filled with Nitrogen is that it is usually dry (no water vapour) so your tyre pressure will not increase as much when heated compared to compressed air. Used to blow the tyres up on my rally car with Nitrogen and it was a definite improvement over air.

**** here,
![]() You've no idea how I felt when sometime later I checked the tyre pressures at Sainsbury's and it proceeded to deflate my tyres to about 10 psi before refilling them ![]() Plus they only came with about 28psi IIRC in them to start with and I got a puncture in one. No matter the benefits, just can't be certain of keeping it in there. So depends on what you have to pay for it. Oh and I was sold on the fact I would get better life in the tyre - so why not for a road bike? ![]() |
