Have a friend who is going to be doing her CBT.
She lives in Bromley, works near Liverpool St. I am trying to convince her to go down the CG125 route rather than the Scooter route. Haven't ridden a scooter, so its my personal prejudice thats my point of view. What I need is a good argument for bike rather than scooter, or even to find out if there IS any real argument other than personal prefs.... David |

out in spain i found the scooters hard to ride as your knees/legs are to close to each other= less balance IMO

I have both, the scooter allows me to get through traffic to the station for a shout quickly and to nip into town for the odd bit now and then.
The bike is my freedom and nothing else can give me that grin factor when giving it a blast on the open road. Owning a bike gives you that extra little prestige if thats the right word and you become a member of the biker family. In summary Scooter is a tool, my Bike is a toy. HTH |

As much as I'm loathed to say it, there's no good reason for her to get a bike if it's only going to be used as a tool.

To be bluntly honest Dave it's easier to justify the scooter in the circumstances, economicly, practicality, and usability are all on the side of the scooter for a personal city transport, much easier to learn to control (twist & go) not percieved need for all that motorbike gear, (leathers and stuff) insurance is pennies, and they use about 3 fluid ounces of juice a fortnight.
But that's about all it is and will ever be, not long distance stuff, not social stuff (yes there are a few scooter clubs, but unless you go retro it's not really a scene as such), likewise track days (they do do scooter ones, but it's not normal ![]() So if you want to just have the cheapest form of predictably transport for going across London to work then the scooter wins, however if you want it as something more then get a proper bike. (not much help there was I ![]() Cheers Mark.

The only downside is that if she does her CBT and/or test on a "twist and go" then that is all she will be ever able to ride.
Better to keep one's options open, perhaps? |

I went to school with a lot of lads (sexist perhaps, but facts are facts) that as soon as they turned 16, did CBT & jumped on to a 50cc scooter.
These were used in a mix ranging between 30mph & 50mph zones. They were (on the whole) capable of 30mph approx. The number of times I've been told about car drivers cutting them up (happens to all bikes I know, but hang in there!) & simply not being able to get away from the situation. A couple of lads I know spent a fair amount of time in hospital too because of flying lessons provided by car bonnets. Those could be down to them being novices, but had they been on a bike, manoeverability would of been increased IMO. I've ridden both scooters & bikes, bikes are easier to throw around, and scooters bottom out on the plastics underneath. Smaller tyres on scooters make for a smaller contact patch. If she is going to get a scooter, if she even so much as looks at anything with less than 125cc, please, for the love of god, poke her eyes out with a rusty spoon for her own safety! |

Aren't scooters stolen more than bikes?
Mark is right, if it's just transport, get a scoot. |
