Right, I've done some searching around but I will assume from the start my head isn't in the best possible shape, so here goes:
1999 SV650S as per my current avatar, coming home from work yesterday in the middle of light rain, the dash lights go out, tacho and rev counter stop working, no indicators (rear light went out too, but at the time I didn't realise that since I was riding the thing ![]() As soon as I reach home (couple of miles later) I proceed to check the fuses. Bingo, blown 15A fuse (the dash / indies one). New fuse in place, everything works again. Today I start her up, everything still working, 500 yards down the road I'm left with no dash / indies / rear light again, so turn back and head home. Like Rictus said in a previous thread, Quote:
Thanks in advance, Filipe Last edited by Filipe M.; 01-04-07 at 01:25 PM. Reason: Corrected fuse rating, had written 10A but it's 15A |

Basic check points are,
loom around rear subframe rail (left side) loom behind side panel (righthand side, bolt goes into loom) Main solanoid relay (under right sidepanel/green cover) Under the relay tray (under riders seat) Plugs under the tank (corroded pins on the multi-plugs) head stock( wires rubbing around it) Front loom (normally if aftermarket ind's are fitted). after that it's buzzing out the wire runs with a meter. Somewhere to look anyway. Cheers Mark.

Thanks Mark, I've given up for the day, my garage lights are crap and getting the bike in the kitchen on a second floor might be a bit of an issue

Well, stripped the fairings, unplugged all the bulbs in the relevant circuits, plugged them in again, reseated all the plugs I could find (except for one - shown below), checked the loom for chaffing points following Rictus' list (wtf was going through mr. suzuki's mind?!) plugged a brand new fuse in there and nothing happened for the last 10 miles or so.
Of course I'm not too happy for not having found a plausible cause, but since she's going in for a service this week or the next my mind will be a little more at ease. As for "except for one" plug... could anyone please tell me wtf is this, and why does it lie unplugged in a rubber boot so big I could almost wear it myself? ![]() ![]() Crappy phone pic, but it should be enough. RHS of bike, under the tank as per pic. Thank you very muito! |
