Default DELL PC's not so bad...

There have been a number of threads about where and what PC's to buy etc so I thought I would update on my current experience if it helps anyone...

I have a 2 year old Dell Dimension 3000 pent4 with 256mb RAM. Small? yep and runs very sssllooooowwlly. So yesterday I ordered, online, a 512MB RAM to give me 640MB in total.

It turned up today! and... it works!

Whatever is said, Mr Dell, I have to you. Service or what!

Why did you buy from Dell

I've always used Crucial.com

Their RAM is lifetime guaranteed

I'd have also gone for 2Gb of RAM, that would've turned your machine into a real flying machine

I hate to say it, but how much did that cost you? Dell make quite good boxes for the money, but their parts and upgrade service tends to be very expensive... I'm using my Dell machine at the moment on the grounds that my other PC caught on fire, and it's really not bad at all, with a couple of minor tweaks it was superb value.

I know nowt about PC's which is why I went to Dell cos I could match what I needed with my PC. Cost me just over £40. No doubt could have got it cheaper...

I was just impressed with the ease and speed.

Ach, well, that's not bad at all really. You could've got it cheaper (or, well, twice as much for the same maybe) but not drastically, and at that price is it worth shopping around? I'd expected it to be more. You win this one Dell! But I'll be back!

does your dimension freeze up alot ?

i recieved a new dimension a few weeks ago,

ive never had so much trouble with a PC before.

it was pretty much put together and shipped out with the CD drives wired up to the wrong SATA ports, causing a conflict with the procesors, causing constant blue screens and freezes for up to a minuite, as are many of the dimension 9200's , Dell know about their mistake, but havent contacted anyone letting them know, or changed the way that they are wired up before they are shipped.

many people are probably experiencing difficulties with their new PC's who dont know too much about them, for no apparent reason.

Dell's designers are intelligent.

The ones that put the machines together are students on a Saturday/Sunday morning, if you're lucky! If you're not, you get the untrained monkeys.

Customer service managers at Dell (according to my man on the inside) would LOVE to employ the monkeys, but alas, they're not allowed.

A rare positive in a company with a bad home user reputation. At least they took the initiative to move away from Longhorn, erm, I mean Vista.
