maxing out

Hi can any1 help, today whilst out i decided to see what the top speed is of my bike, in controled conditions with marshalls keeping and eye on us i maxed out at 135mph thing is i was only reading just over 9000 revs on full throttle the bike would not give any more speed like i said in a controled enviroment on a flat stretch of runway 2miles long the engine revs freely to redline whilst stationary and can redline in every gear except top gear.........
So question is is it restricted in top gear is there a mod to remove the restrictor,
help please as i now feel i am further ahead than the bike will allow
and may have to think about a change... may have to look into getting a sv1000 but they dont do a curvy version
and i dont want a TL1000

any help would be appreciated

If it won't rev out it's probably wind resistance. To get any more out of it you'll need to make yourself and bike as streamlined as possible.

Try sliding right back on the seat or even onto the pillion, take your left hand off the bar and if your very brave, lay your head sideways on the tank.
For the bike, take off the indicators, mirrors and number plate hanger.

BTW 135 is a decent top speed I think, what were the conditions?

why dont you fancy a TL1000?

I've seen 170mph indicated on my ZX7R and can honestly say I don't feel the need to explore anywhere over the 120 mark in normal use.

120 is enough for me at home in a hilly area but in the flat area where i go to school i want more

a guy i know use to have a sv650N K4 and he said the best part about it was when you destroyed an r1 up the mountain it ****ed them off

No offence but how can you say you feel you have exceeded the ability of your bike when all you've done is go fast along a straight line? Why dont you go and buy a drag Hayabusa?

i think this is my problem, i enjoy going fast but it doesnt thrill like it once did.

jon8oy - How much quicker would you expect it to go? You have a finite amount of power and therefore when resistance = power you'll go no faster. The fact it'll rev out in other gears means nothing. Depending on the torque curve you're not necessarily making any more power further up the rev range. Streamlining the bike will help but whether it'll add anything meaningful to the top speed is questionable. The wind resistance is proportional to the square of your speed, so getting another mph requires a a chunk more power (or less resistance). I don't see when you could expect to use this additional speed anyway. It would have to be a straight line at which point was is the point? If it matters that much go get a faster bike as others have suggested. It's not about the destination, it's about the journey.

My bike does 120 at 9000 in 6th. You got standard gearing?
