Just thinking what if Suzuki developed the SV into an 800. It seems that common for people to step up from a 650 to something a little more powerful say a Z750.
Aprilia have the Shiver 750 V twin coming out, Kwak Z750 is very popular, MV's 750s is so sweet and BMW's 800 twin is a fine package. Some home tuners have upped their SV's to 700-800cc. Suzuki could beef up and lighten the crank and rods (they make a 1000 after all) do a little engine work and fit decent (adjustable) suspension......that would surely make a great bike even better. A light nibble package with a bite more grunt. What do you think. |

I think it sounds perfect, and a good alternitive to the sports 600's which are becoming increasingly track focused. I've noticed that most SV owners tend to go on the IL4 600 route or to a bigger V-Twin

Price of about £5000, improved suspension, 750cc bore. Onto a winner IMO.
I'd also like to see an SV800 touring variant, but accept that's highly unlikely (it'd steal lots of both 600 and 1000 vstrom sales). |

basicly an sv 650(curvy) with a 800 engine, better suspension & brakes
& we have a winner? |

I'd probably buy one, but then I'm not sure that's where Suzi wants to take the SV. If it starts getting closer to SS600 power then it begins to lose it's "first big bike" recomendation. I personally hate the phrase as I think the SV is much more than just some "training nappy" stepping stone to "big boys pants" but Suzi obviously gets a lot of sales from it. I suppose the SV isn't designed to compete with SS600s and Z750s and the like, it's designed to compete with CB500s and the like.
Having said that, I suspect they're going to have to do something to compete with the ER6, but I suspect they'll only go cosmetic, and perhaps fractionally better suspendies. |

I'm thinking that they should do both. Update the 650 at bit and bring out an 800. After all they have a GSXR 600, 750 and 1000 with the 750 being the best. It they are not careful they will lose out to the competition who are already bring their bikes out.

I think this is what they should have done with the sport. Instead of just adding lowers and a seat cover they could have put GSXR suspension on and upped the engine aswell. They would be more expensive than the 650 obviously but if they were about the same price as the 1000, it would provide a bike for people who want bigger bike power and smaller bike handling.

Threads of this nature seem to start up every couple of weeks. It seems as soon as one slips off the front couple of pages a new one appears.
If you start making it much quicker\better then you've got a different bike, different market & different price tag. |
