The starter clutch went on my SV curvey. Due to my old man being unable to walk, and me not having the right tools and experience, it was left for 5 months and I bought another bike.
However, last night he came round (been working/playing for Red Dog motorcycles) with the flywheel clamp etc. 30 minutes later, everything was apart and we were locating teeth. The starter clutch (looks like a flywheel) has shreaded 9 teeth. Im gonna get some pictures tonight. We replaced the parts from my old engine (which we'd already stripped), charged the battery and tried firing it up. Took a few minutes, but she sputtered into life. I had a sticking throttle and clutch, but once we lubed those up while it was warming up, they are now fine. Took it up the road and back quickly to check all was ok, and it worked just as well as it did last time. Couldn't believe how light, and how low it is compared to the Bandit, I guess you just forget. So 1 happy man. Shes all working, just need to get her cleaned up, engine number swapped over with the DVLA, and shes good to sell. I've put it back to totally standard, so it'll be perfect for a new rider. I've also got 2 blocks, heads, gearbox, and a whole host of other parts from the old engine im going to be selling. I'll have a post up soonish with lots of goodies for sale (inc screen, hugger etc). So pleased. 5 months, some issues, and its all fine now ![]() |

Well, the gearbox is still in the casing, which still has the rods, pistons etc.
I think the big ends have gone, and the front piston has slight scoring, but no real damage. So it'll come as a job lot to do as you wish with. Will be happy to take offers. Missis is out tonight, so im gonna give the bits a clean up (rain permitting) and i'll post them in a big FS post in the classifieds later. |

I've already been VERY tempted by the idea, but i've got the bandit, and im still trying to find the funds to get my car working again specifically for track days.
But taking it on 1 track day is tempting, very tempting, but if i bin it, then i won't have a bike to sell anymore, so I dont' think i will. Im more tempted to book one of those track days where you use their bikes..... ![]() |

You'd rather do a CAR track day?! Madness! (Although the idea of a car day does appeal - not sure my 1.2 clio with rock hard tyres would fair very well!)

I like G, and u'll get more lateral G force in a car than you can on a bike.
Both have their pros and cons, but Cars Vs Bikes, like comparing a Cruise ship to a Jumbo jet ![]() Plus im a much better, safer, more confident fast car driver than I am bike. Plus a cars more forgiving if you get it wrong on the limit on a track day ![]() |
