Cheers

The AA are good cos if you are a member, you can get recovered in any vehicle I think, so you're covered even in your mates car / bike etc. recovery to base often costs a bit extra though. I get it free with my bike insurance (through MCE). My first bike has recovery to base, the second just recovery to a garage within 15 miles. TBH, i think any of the big ones, eg RAC, AA are fine - but if you break down a lot, check there isn't a callout limit on your policy.

Green Flag are good, but they only cover the vehicle...like old style breakdown cover.

Im with the AA, have been for 13 years. They have had good and bad times. When moving in later this month, then Verna and i will be on RAC (Thye offered a better deal for the joint membership, and verns been with them for 8 years. Agian, good and bad times.

I'd recommend NCI personally. Have recently renewed for my second year and have used them once (the usual dampness on the front plug problem) whereby they took me home. The cover I have is full european for any vehicle (i.e. the person rather than limited number of vehicles).

The reason it is only my second year with them is because:

a) it's only my third year of owning the bike
b) first year obviously had Suzuki recovery etc
c) no need for car breakdown recovery as I have company car which is covered.

Main reason for using NCI, other than having used them before, is cost for European breakdow. Having taken my SV abroad twice now (south of France and Northern Spain), for durations of longer than two weeks, I felt it crucial to have some form of cover.

Typical then that the only time I've used it is when in the UK!

Anyways, NCI get my vote (and they're a Yorkshire company so even better)!

I'm covered with the AA as part of the new bike stuff.

The rear cylinder coil went two weeks ago but luckily enough it was only about a mile from home. I rang the AA and they turned up only half an hour later. I'd told them the problem and they were aware it was a bike that had broken down. The patrolman looked at the bike, pulled the plug to check it but admitted he didn't have a spare. I asked him the point of the exercise and he said that I could pop to a bike shop and pick one up. It wasn't the plug. He then checked further and found the coil to be at fault. I asked if he carried one of those and he laughingly said "no". I then asked why he had spent the best part of half an hour identifying a problem he couldn't fix anyway. He said at least we knew what the problem was. I asked how he proposed to get my bike to the garage to have it repaired under warranty and he said that he couldn't do it himself and that he'd have to ask for someone to pick the bike up the next day. This we did and the bike was sorted out pretty quickly by the shop.

I was left wondering however why do Suzuki have this arrangement with the AA to cover bikes when they don't carry any spares and can't pick you up if you break down. If I'd have been in the middle of nowhere what would I have done. I did put this question to the patrolman and he said he'd have given me a lift home. he wasn't so sure about the bike though.

I have my concerns about the AA now.

I got tired of having the p**s taken out of me by RAC callcentre monkeys... Carole Nash's own breakdown service has been brilliant so far, so I'll just stick with that.

I got AA relay and pay monthly without a contract so can cancel anytime. It's £7.05 a month and covers me on my car and bike and they will recover you to your house wherever you breakdown in the UK for no extra charge..

Touch wood I don't ever use it

Cos electrics are the most common fault, plus water & electrics don't mix!
Except immersion heaters.
Oh and kettles.
