Default Lowering a pointy help please

Hi
Im after some info on lowering a pointy sv650 for a friend, am i right in thinking you can get longer dog bones and does anyone have any idea how much lower this makes the bike? also where can you get these?
Also is the only other option a modified seat?
How about dropping the forks through the yokes does this help matters?

thanks in advance.

Good morning.
I don't know who does longer dogbones for the Pointy, but all rising rate rear suspension set ups have roughly a 3-1 ratio. Therefore if you increase the length of the dogbones by 10mm you'll lower the seat by roughly 30mm, & vice versa.
I've found that lowering the forks slightly lkess than you lower the rear to be about right. i.e. if you lower the seat 30mm, pull the forks through 25mm etc.
The best way of lowering the bike is still a replacement shock, Hagons do bespoke lowering shocks for just about every bike for around £300. Pricey but worth it I think.
You can always get the seat padding reduced too.

Cheers.

What the man with the spanner said Plus, get your friend to have a sit on an unmodified bike to begin with anyway, you may be suprised. With the preload set to "Special K" rather than "Cornish Pasty" weight (assuming your midget friend is also light on the pie scale) the suspension compresses enough for most dwarves. I'm 5'5" and can get one foot down flat, both down on tippy toes. Just have to be a teensy bit careful putting the left foot down on roads with a steep camber toward the drain

Liz got her longer dogbones for her K5 from her local Suzuki dealer, they sorted it all out for her and dropped the forks through the yoke to.

If you're dropping the yoke, dont go to far with it otherwise it will upset the handling 10mm I think is about as far as you can get away with.

Also, if you drop the front too far you can end up in a situation where the forks will hit hard parts before they bottom out. There was a guy on the ER6 forum who dropped his front by 4 inches, total cretin, then he went over a high kerb and bang, forks into yokes, broke his thumbs Same guy had been telling teh entire internetz how great this mod was, and how it made him superfast in a straight line

well dogbones will work but why not go ahead and put an 04-05 gsxr 600-750 front end and shock on that lowered my bike some not that i needed it lower but dropping the forks and changing the dogbones and lowering the seat are the best way to go

Hi
I've just bought a lowering kit for my new SV650 from ebay. The sell kits for 25mm and for 40mm, same price for each: £14.
I can look up the seller for you if you want.

Regards
Linda
