Default Tierods / Jackup kit

I'm looking at getting a jackup kit for my z750, the one from hyperpro is £85 and i think it changes the length of the tierods

There are two things.

Does changing the tierods adjust the way the shock will feel, will it change the way the linkage acts on the shock.

Other companies make ajustment kits which are cheapers £45, would you recomend going with Hyperpro of is this a pretty universal part?

you're talking about what people will know as "dogbones" adjusting their length effectively moves the back of the bike up or down, this does change the position of the rising rate linkage in it's travel.

The other kit appears to extend the mount (triangle things), this shouldn't change the position of the linkage, so is a better bet.

a number of people make dogbone, but it's important to make sure they are made of the correct material and not some alloy.

I've made several sets for the SV I generally use tool steel.

Rictus cheers for the answer, I was thinking about making my own, probably do serveral set some I have some adjustment for the future.

Do you reckon normal steel would do the trick? Will speak to one of the engineers to get something strong, I take it high tensile strengh is what you are looking for?

Got any advice about making them do you use a mill to cut the shape or something else?

Also trying to work out how to get the dogbone the right length, whats the best way? I was think of getting some scrap metal that a similar shape to a dogbone and drilling a load of holes in one end and working it out from there. Is there any easier way, doing this I guess I will also be able work out if 25mm is enough to little/too much.

Also spoke to the someone at PDQ who reckoned that although the the linkage will be diffrent length I shouldn't be able to notice it, does this sound right in your experince?

Generally good quality steel should be fine, but do make sure it's at least as thick as the originals.

unload the swing arm (remove wheel/ brake) and refit the spindle, measure from that to a fixed point on the subframe above with the standard dogbones in place, then just reduce the dogbone length by 10mm, fit those and measure again (should give you roughly 20mm extra from memory, might be a little less) which will give a benchmark for the length you need.

the guy from PDQ is probably right I'm still amazed by what people don't notice, but it will quicken up the turn in and if you go to far make it a little unstable, I ended up with about a 2 1/4 inch rise on the back, which was just a little to much for stability, but gave really good turn in, rather than loose that and drop the rear a bit or add a steering damper, I changed the bar ends for GSXF ones with the lead cores, which worked fine.

Should have wrote the post about PDQ better, the guy said that I shoudn't notice any diffrerence in the way the spring behaves although I might need to adjust the damping a little, I assume the preload will also need resetting.

He said that I should notice quicker steering, which is what I am after.
