I've allways loved motards etc, best bikes for uk roads in my opinion.

What's it's highest comfortable cruising speed, I mean with regards to the engine being comfy rather than rider?

cheers all for the comments, i knew once i'd ridden the DRZ that i'd have to have one, they really are very fun...

brian: if you could take the windblast, the bike is pretty happy at a sustained 70-80mph on the speedo and could probably cruise a bit higher, but there isn't a huge amount of poke left and the windblast makes anything over 50mph a bit uncomfortable. from a rolling start off a roundabout she'll keep pace with a BMW 330 up to 80mph easily, probably more but the guy chickened i've been in a 330 and they're not slow, it's stilll more fun on back roads <50mph by far though. engine is plenty grunty, single just dumps torque in the first four gears, 5th is essentially an overdrive it seems to get you up to top speed

@ratty: i'd reeeeally love a KTM950SM or superduke, but unfortunately the insurance companies would just laugh at me, not to mention i haven't got the cash to drop on one of those anyway. it's funny you should mention stunting, i managed a 1st to 2nd gear a*** out powerslide (by accident) off some diesel and got a little air off a couple of humpback bridges (deliberately) today - no way in hell i'd be trying stuff like that on my SV, the DRZ just encourages hooliganism in the wet and feels like there's limitless grip in the dry

now i just need to get some trick bits for it, needs an exhaust that doesn't sound like a hairdryer, i can hear it popping but it's achingly muffled, then sort out the rear end and see where it goes from there

no i dont try to stunt on my SV, on my scooter i take the ****! but not on my SV,
i can see any motard encouraging wheelies, powerslides,skids, stoppies...ah teh list is endless! i bet it feels well planted in the dry!

yeah yoshi pipes sound good on em! rear end? suspension or tyres?

Think I know what i'll be getting for my next bike, whenever that is.
I'm not really a speed freak so it sounds an ideal bike for myself, especialy with the state of our UK roads, full of bumps and holes etc.

but back to reality...

in the dry it's a demon, feels utterly solid even on the crappiest island roads. the rear end changes are going to be cosmetic only, led brake light and indicators, yoshi pipe seems the standard choice, plus modding the airbox and rejetting, there's a guy on thumpertalk with his DRZ pushing out close to 60bhp, and another that's been turbocharged, but i'm not planning to do anything that extreme...

brian: try and get a go one before you buy, you'll be able to guage the amount of power for yourself, would hate for you to buy and be disappointed. get a test ride on bumpy back roads and let the suspension and chassis do the talking, it's much better there.

Lol, won't be buying one anytime soon mate.
Just know that my next bike will be a motard,enduro or crosser etc.
Dunno why but, sports bikes don't appeal to me, would just love a big thumper, but somthing that'd be comfortable to go touring on via the UK/European backroads.

There's a CCM Motard that zooms around where I live, it's sounds gorgeous, never had a good look at it though as he don't hand around lol
