Default It died. Part 2

Sat at some lights today and the bike starts runnign on one cylinder.
Then the tach dropped to zero and the speedo started going nuts all over the place.

Then it conked out, turning the ignition off and back on again there was no dash lights or power to the bike at all.

A few minutes later it let me start it again but pretty much straight away didnt like it much and did the same again, one cylinder, no tach, digi display flickering.

Thinking maybe the starter relay is on the way out (which seems unusual for a bike on 16k) or maybe a bad earth.

Any other ideas?

You checked the known chafe points for worn insulation of the loom? The chafe points are under the riders seat, the loom chafes on the frame and / or the bolts holding the rider seat in position.

Kick it?

Would a faulty starter relay cause the bike to stop running? I would have though it would have given you trouble starting it more than anything, but i'm probaly wrong.

Could it be a wierd fault with the battery? Sounds unlikely because it starts but might be worth a thought.

Have you checked the obvious, that everything is connected properly and no important connections are falling off/have damaged wiring. Sorry if you have already tried all this.

Well the starter relay is the connection between the battery live and the loom, via the main fuse, so yes it does cause problems.

Wiring not chafed, did mine with new wire all wrapped in spiral banding so it wouldn't get chafed.

Am just looking through the connections now.

Right I'm fairly sure its the starter relay, started it, sure enough the clocks went nuts and it died, no electrical power anywhere, battery is showing 12.6, but 0 coming out of the red wire from the relay

OK the daft c### dot com award for 07 goes to yorkie_chris

The screw holding the battery wire to the starter relay was loose.
