Hello All,
just after some general advise if i may - i am due to be away for 3-weeks - perhaps a month in the near future and i am wondering if there is anything that i could/should do to the bike whilst it is going to standing for this time. My main concern is the alarm and the battery - I have a Datatool Veto Evo that apparently has <2.5mA draw when standing - so does anyone know if this could drain the battery over 3-4 weeks??? Also as mentioned any other top tips for leaving a bike in-situ would be gratefully received ( i am but a sponge soaking it all up ) ![]() thanks again all MC |

Chain it up to summink, maybe consider leaving it at a mates place (Not Jester tho. He'll nick it...)
Might need to bung it on a trickle charger if you've got one, dunno if that's enough to kill the battery but it might be. |

My datatool alarm will power itself down after a week of standing idle, to save the battery. I believe that most modern alarms will do this.

Slurp some old engine oil on the chain to stop it rusting.
AC50 on rest of bike for same reason. Trickle charger for battery if you can.Dont know anything about alarms as I hate them and wont have one on my bike. ![]()

Left mine without a run for about a month while I tried to get hold of the correct gear lever (it's a K3, except the left footpeg hanger was clearly salvaged from a newer model and hence my first attempt at getting a lever resulted in me having another piece of random bike bit in the garage). Had enough juice for one start, which i promptly blew on forgetting that you need the side stand up to engage gear (was testing the new gear lever as opposed to going anywhere).
That's with an alarm and immobiliser suckling away at the batterty for the duration. If you do drain the batt, at least it takes less than 10 minutes after a jump to build enough charge for another start. |

Most modern alarms go into a sort of half-armed state, which is supposed to reduce battery drain.
Probably does naff all, I would expect you to need a jump start after leaving it for that long. I would seriously consider finding a mate with a garage who you could leave it with. Maybe even ask a bike shop to store it for you (for a fee)
