As you're the experts I thought I'll ask you guys. I'm interested in getting an SV (got the idea on sat - woke up with it and it's sticking) and there are some 07 ones around still in the shops, is there much difference you think between an 07 or 08 bike?

Yep, once the 08 bikes come out the price of the 07 will drop hugely! Other than that as far as I know there isn't a major update planned.

I already saw one advertised on biketrader for 3799 at a dealers. Not bad I thought.

You sound alright for a deviant :batman: lol.

I'm pretty good once you get to know me. 3799 sounds pretty good to me. Try to haggle over getting stuff like a first service, or a good deal on kit and you'll be laughing!

Nice roads in sussex, I go there a lot in summer.

Get a black one, or a green one what has got kawasaki on the tank, and you'll be on the right track...

The place is swamped here with kawasakis so thank you no (dealer Alfs nearby). Once had a pillion ride on a ZXR, had to close my eyes :smt002 (never again).
I am hoping to get the servicing done by a small indepent workshop much cheaper and more personal. The dealer i saw this advertised is somewhere in Kent, will try a dealer a bit closer first. Think I would like a fly-screen as one of the reasons I want to change bikes is being blown off my harley (yes they do go over 60 mph). And it has to be lowered....

There's a few of the vertically challenged (or advantaged? I bet you don't bump your head on the doorframe!) on here who can help a lot.

Only difference will be in the colours.

If you can find an 07 bike in a colour you like then go for that as you should be able to get it for less than an 08 bike IMHO.

As for lowering, you can fit or get fitted longer dogbones on the rear end, these lower the height of the rear if you are short of leg should help you, Mt other half has had her SV lowered this way, Also you can drop the forks in the yokes a little ( 10mm or so ) and this helps to.

Any reputable dealer / garage should be able to do this work for you.

The other thing to do is get some foam cut out of the seat, personally I'd try this first as its less work that getting the dogbones etc fitted.

Considered buying 2nd hand? the 99-02 bikes are now very cheap, and there's some neat ones about...
The 2003 model was the tallest ever SV650, recified from 2004 onwards.

I have had some experiance lowering SVs (Samnooshka on the forum is 5ft), I would make sure they don't do what the shop did for hers (changed the dog bones and turned all the preload to the lowest setting) handled horribly....

If you lower the back with dog bones, lower the front by dropping the yokes down the forks a little (10mm is, I think the maximum you can get away with) to keep the bike's geometry about right. As stated before, try to just get a lowered seat, as this doesn't mess with the bikes suspension at all :)

Also, welcome!

Twin spark plugs per cylinder from 07 (correct me if I'm wrong)

Are you after a naked one?

I have a naked one for sale, it's in the For Sale section but it may be too tall for you as it's one of the K3 models. you're more than welcome to try it for size any time.

The 07 bikes were the first to be fitted with an additional sensor in the exhaust, just before the end can but before the weld so an after market can is still possible in the future. As for twin sparkies I dont think so. But I have been wrong (many times)

Oh and welcome.

The nekkid version is a lot more comfortable through stop start traffic and should keep your licence in tact too as you'll be a lot more aware of your speed. Also cheaper in theory if it goes down the road without expensive plastics to replace.

Just get an early unabused model (pointy). I dont think there are that many noticeable differences between them except for price.

Not so much a derail, more a clarification... Rob, is that your piece on the Visordown website describing the SV? Good review :)

The 07 SV does have twin spark plugs indeed. Tiger 55 helped me do the mod with silicon to prevent water getting in, and said there were now two of em.

Just looked at the suzuki site and the black sv now has a red seat. The 07 was all black, so worth looking at them.

Lozzo
18-01-08, 11:05 AM
It would cost 30 quid to professionally recover a seat in black, or about the same cost as a used black one in excellent condition. The fact it has a red seat wouldn't put me off buying it cos I know I could change the seat colour for buttons.

Haha, I wish. It cost a little bit more than that, but I could get a used black seat for 30 quid to replace the red one on a K7/8

I had K3 and didn't have a problem with the seat height and I have little legs - inside leg measurement 29 inches!!
