View Full Version : Ride Out 27th April 2008 - Welsh Way Round IV.
I've had a request for more detailed instructions of the route, attached is a pdf.
Im going to be planning a spin sometime in the week or so after this rideout.. as I cant make this due to change in pay dates do'h thinking of the black mountains via Llandovery in some shape or form..
Get your own thread VB :D.
Seriously though your idea may get missed here.

What's a matter with you guys and ladies.:p
It's Wales. It's gonna rain. We're gonna get wet.
But we're still going to have a good time/ride.

+1, we will be there regardless of the weather. nothing a good waterproof and some Avon Storms can't cure. lol

The old Severn bridge is closed all this weekend.

The old Severn bridge is closed all this weekend.
In that case we could be getting very wet regardless of if it rains at all. :jocolor:
Is the meet point still the same?! Are we going across the new bridge instead? In which case how much is the toll?
as far as I know it is FREEEEEEEEE
as far as I know it is FREEEEEEEEE
OK will let the boss know.... as he was asking the questions?! :D
Both bridges are free for bikes.
Re a new meeting place.
Well it would be sensible, Aust services is the worst place possible to start from if the old bridge is shut.
But I guess it might be too late now. Unless Mogs posts, have to assume it's the same.

It's 45 miles from aust to cheltenham according to google due to lack of junctions on the M4 which allow you to make a 180 degree turn.
Cheltenham or Chepstow?
Alternative places would be Magor Services, or the supermarket in Chepstow. But like I said, Mogs has to decide this.
Popped on here to let you know about the old bridge being closed West-bound this weekend. But it seems that you already know so as you were...
Yes, that is WEST bound closed, EAST bound OPEN.
i dont think mogs has tinternet out of working hours?
Drew Carey
26-04-08, 06:37 PM
Anyone got his number?
Zombie Jesus
26-04-08, 07:17 PM
yeah I meant chepstow ](*,)
There is a big layby opposite chepstow race ground which is right on the route if anyone is still looking for a meetup place.
Keep in mind if anyone wants to get back on M4 west via aust the nearest place to turn around is the M5 J16 and to get on the M48 east you'd have to turn around at M4 J23a.

Chepstow is easier for us as we will come down from Gloucester, but, don't want to do it if no one else is gonna be there or if no-one knows. lol

We're meeting Drew and Lily in Tewkesbury tomorrow so will obviously follow their lead. Always nice to meet beforehand and introduce ourselves to our fellow ride-outers.:D, but understand that may not be possible due to the unforseen circumstances.
seriously guys and galls It would be nice to know WTF is happening for a meet point tomorrow, as if the bridge is shut we need to arrange a new meet point or we will have peeps all over the place.
can some one who has Mogs number please get in contact with him and if needs be post on here in his absence before this turns into a clusrter f*8k!!
I would like to know where i am going to meet tomorow.
just read this, what a bummer.Anyone know what the plan is
Magor services would be good
Drew Carey
26-04-08, 08:33 PM
Magor services would be good
I'm happy to go whereever, but don't want to meet somewhere else if Mogs our intrepid leader goes to Aust. lol.
Anyone know how we can contact him? Post in Idle Banter for his number?
Magor services would be good
where is that??
as I am coming up the M5 Magor is just as easy as Aust, but if nothing defo is planned then I m heading to the original meeting place
Drew Carey
26-04-08, 08:35 PM
where is that??
Its at junction 23a on M4 which is the point that we would need to turn around to go back towards M48
where is that??
just over the new 7 bridge mate junction 23a,where u turn to head back to chepstow

cheers guys, so is that where the general concensus in on the meet point now?
Well, I'm of the belief that if no-one can get hold of Mogs then we just meet at Aust as per original plan. We don't want to end up with half in one place and half in the other.
Gonna go and post on the IB thread now to ask if anyone can PM his details as I am happy to give him a ring.
fizzwheel should have his number
why not just stick to the plan where to meet?
then sort it out in the morning
I've not been able to contact anyone who might have his or Jabba's number.
Like Drew says, stick with Aust unless you read something different here first.

PM'd Fizz, hopefully will get a reply. Or, just meet at Aust and go from there. At least then we will all be together.

Are they going from there to Aust or just waiting there for others?
going to aust.......... as the bridge is open eastbound, i dont realy see a problem
that is if it is open aestbound, as a few have posted?

I assume then onto the meet at 11?? so back to the original meet point it is then?

We'll be joining you mate with Pete and Lissa......easiest way.
I'll be at Aust at the appointed time.
It's not the end of the world, just an extra 30 minute motorway detour.
There's even the option of the more interesting route back to the M5/M49 ,down the A403 Avonmouth road (probably can't afford the time though)
yep - Jabba knows.
I'll ring Mogs first thing in the morning as I don't think he's connected to the internerd at home.
Question:
What exactly am I supposed to tell him as, reading between the lines, the rideout is still on and it's meet at Aust as proposed.
What about the Newport meeting point - is that as was?
In other words, do I need to ring him at all?
Please can someone post the definitive "Wot Jabba needs to tell Mogs" story below and I'll tell him?

Tell Mogs nowt.....just that once we get to Aust we will have to go back to the M4 then accross to junction 23a then back up to Chepstow. Know its a long way round, but better to keep peeps together me thinks.

Thanks chaps - have a good rideout, sorry I can't be there but working like a dog (always thought that was a strange phrase...) at the moment and am on-call this weekend :(

If the bridge is closed into Wales then it would have made more sense to meet at Chepstow IMO.
However as Mogs, the organiser, was not able to condone this change to the plan then, rightly so, the original plan must be adhered to.
See all you peeps later. :grouphug:

Well, what a lovely day out. :D:D
The rain more or less held off. The heavy stuff coming on our trip home. Sorry for holding you up there Drew.:(
The police must've stayed in bed, except the car that was missed by my otherwise reliable and eagle-eyed pillion.
Thanks Mogs for putting the rideout together and the rest of the Surfers for being thoroughly nice peeps. See you at AR08.

Nice to meet some of you finally, hope I didn't hold you up too much.
Gained some valuable experience and my confidence has grown, sadly not in my back tyre - new one me thinks.
Big thanks to Pete and Lisa for making me feel welcome.
Gather everyone pretty much had takeaway yesterday then?
Dan
P.S. Oh did anyone see that random kid sat on a bench in one of the villages with just a bike helmet on and no bike or gear.

Cheers Dan,
Always a nervewracking experience, your first big rideout. You did fine. You had a good day and got home in one piece. :smt023
As for a takeout. It's pretty much traditional for some of us. No energy to cook, but still too buzzy to go to bed.
