Im just interested to see how many people have them... Also what people have and what you think to them.
Please post what you have and what you think, you also welcome to post why you dont have one. :-D.
Cheers.

yes on both bikes.
The datatool on my SV I find a right PIA, whereas the meta on the GSXR is a much better alarm IMHO.

I have a Spyball something on mine. Pain in the ass, drains the battery and the other day when I accidently set it off at the petrol station it took me 20 seconds or so to realise that it was coming from my bike it was so quiet. Rubbish!
Datatool on 1st SV. Meta on this one. We think the opposite to Fizz:-D
Horses for courses:-D
Didn't choose to have either of them fitted, they came with the bikes.
wheres the yes, but i would'nt have bothered if it was'nt already on the bike when i bought it, option

Pricing one up at the moment. Got a quote today from Elsec, York Rd in Leeds. For a datatool / meta £300 inc vat.
I could pay someone to watch it for that ;)
If anyone can recommend anywhere I'd be obliged. :)

As Lissa says - horses for courses. I have a Spyball on my ZX6, been fine for ten years, loud, no problems, even has the original battery in the fob.
The Datatool on the SV1000 is way more fussy to use, but has been completely reliable for the four-and-a-bit years it's been on there.

I'd agree I find the datatool on my SV fussy to use, the datatool on Liz's Duke is just the same. I just dont get on with datatools I guess, I dont know why it just drives me nuts :D
Its been reliable, only time I've had trouble with it was when water got into the keyfob and it stopped working, I keep my keyfob inside my jacket now so that it stays dry*
*Mr Squids idea not mine.

Had one, it was fine; then one day it decided to engage the immobilizer as I was riding down the road. That sucked.
It's gone now. I'm happy.
What good are they really? They don't deter thieves. A mate had his bike stolen from outside his apartment, the alarm getting quieter as the bike goes away in the back of a van. By the time he got downstairs, it was gone -- there wasn't anywhere to lock it to the ground.

I usually think of an alarm telling you its getting attacked while they try to get the bike free from its locks... :thumright:

Ive had a Laserline or summit which was vgood in the year I had it from new, then a datatool which was unspeakably ****e. I have wasted around 20 hours of my life standing around with the blipper thingy trying to get the bike started stranded in the middle of nowhere. Alarms are a nightmare, if your lucky enough not to need one for insurance purposes then don't have one IMHO
I have a meta alarm and it's not so bad, despite the pitiful alarm buzzer sound. Has been annoying in the past though, for example when the keyfob decided to break for no apparent reason! I won't be getting one on any future bikes.
Dont have one on my future winter hack but the 675 has to have one for insurance reasons.

Yes, a SolaLarm (sp?) that was dealer fitted for insurance purposes. It's been OK, but life would be easier without one...

Got am Accumen Cat1 that I got off eBay for peanuts and fitted it myself. After I ironed out the problems it has been fine apart from when the tilt sensor managed to work itself loose and kept setting the alarm off for no reason.
Gives peace of mind for me as I live in a quiet street with friendly (nosey) neighbours so when it goes off somebody always notices and checks on it!

Hate them with a passion. Have and would never have one fitted to my bike. Can understand why some folk need the swines! Bike outside your house or work and if you buy a bike with one fitted you get a small reduction on your insurance, so they say.
:)
I don't need an alarm.
Have you seen the state of my motorcycles :?: Anyone that has will understand.

I've not bothered on either bikes. They both have immobilsers though but if someone wants to nick it that bad they'll have it away. They're both in a locked garage overnight. The alarm made about £30 per year difference on the cost of the insurance so I didn't see the point. have had A Datatool 3 on previous bikes, very sensitive and the cats kept setting it off!

I've got a the Triumph branded Datatool. You're right that it's a PITA. The Spyball that I had on a previous bike was much better.
I have a SV that I bought for 600 quid... so unless the alarm is really cheap I don't see the point. While if they nick the bike I'll be anoyed the money I would get back would more then cover the replacement of it. Plus I don't need a alarm, I just park it next to the clean undamaged bikes and they nick those instead.
A alarm is good if your bike is worth a few grand and to deter those 'opportunistic 'thiefs, but if a professional wants in they will just lift it up, alarm, locks and bike and just drive away.
I have a Cyclone C11 on my bike. Cost £30, self installed. Already saved the bike once (I heard it going off when I was in the office, so went out to confront the w***ers).
Doesn't mean I'd buy one again though, that depends on what bike I'm protecting. If I had a more valuable bike, I'd buy a more expensive alarm.
