Hello all, i really need your help on this one as last night i was soo frustrated over this. :smt088
Ok, on sunday the regulater went over charging the batter for about 100 miles cooked it. Got the bike home fitted another regulater and change one connecter which had melted through. batter was fully charged fitted turned the ignition on and tried starting it up, it was making all the right noises the starter motor was working, but she just wouldnt start.
now since sunday she hasnt been on her side or any thing like that, i changed the spark plugs about 3 weeks ago, oil change 3 weeks ago, checked all the leads from the plug they are fine, plenty of petrol in her twisting the throttle i can smell the petrol going in, but she just wont bite and start !!!! grrrrrr... really annoying.
if anyone has any ideas or suggestions i would be very pleased. :smt045
thanks
Ash.
I assume it's turning over ash, but just wont go the whole way and start

chaffed wires?

any wires that have rubbed through on the frame or anything, might be causing an electrical gremlin.
What about fuses? reg / recs can blow fuses too

ive checked all the fuses, but its sounds like it wants to start if that makes sense, but it just wont! lol, all fuses are fine the bike was running absolutely perfectly on sunday, i hade it on the rolling road too and she loved it. Could it just be where its been left for 3 days where i usually use it everyday for work??
If it's trying to turn over, but not firing, that suggests two areas to look at:
- Is fuel getting to the cylinder reader for explosion?
- Is power getting to the spark plug to ignite said fuel?
Easy check, take out the front spark plug, hold is against the frame & hit the starter button. Do you see sparks? If you do, you need to look at the fuel system. If you don't, then it's an electrical gremlin on the way to the plugs.
Just be careful when holding that spark plug, they can give quite a jolt! ;)

lol ok i will try that shouldnt be a problem, i really hope it starst because it shouldnt be a fueling problem or an electrical problem since it was absolutely fine the last time it was running

ok i went home last night the battaery levels was at 13.2v checked for spark loads of it, almost made me jump lol, so i am completely stumped now, ive checked for dodgy wires and they all seam fine, im gonna have to take it to a garage at this rate..

So it's fuelling then :-P
Has it got fuel in it? Are the plugs getting wetted with fuel when turning it over? Does the exhaust smell of fuel? Have you just flooded it?
P.s if the ignition systems got enough "belt" to make you go "F###!!!" then it's strong enough to run :-P

hmmm ive probably flooded it, since when it died on the motorway, is was sort off bumping itself to the hardshoulder, but it wasnt runnign it stalled to a halt lol, so probably flooded it..... how would i sort this out ??

Just leave the plugs out for a few minutes and it'll clear the flood. Then put plugs back in and HT leads on and see if it fires.

ok thanks m8 i will try when i get home.
Just a thought.
My curvey regulator had a fit and started over charging and in doing so fried the brain (ECU?)
If the bike hasn't run since it died on the hard shoulder might be worth trying to see if trying a known good one solves things.
If that works at least you know the solution, but you might still be unlucky and find that it has also fried the rev counter like mine did
Good luck

Much fun when the reg breaks, it's quite possible to fry pretty much everything.
