Well.... someone had to start one.
Those gymnasts look hard as nails. They'd not only kick your ass, but they'd then somersault home.

was a gymnast for 10 yrs, and, yes gymnasts are as hard as nails.....the training regime for olympic level is very demanding. I trained every other day at one point. Saturdays and Sundays trained practically all day.
can't imagine where they get the time for anything other than gym at that level.
Downside to it all by the time they are ready for 'gym' retirement their body is foobarred.....well mine was

I was going to be a gymnast but:
a) I was lazy
b) Iwas cr@p at forward rolls
Otherwise you would have all seen me in a leotard by now.

I competed in Gymnastics at under 12's county level, and like DB says, there was very little time for anything else in my life.
With a little bit of a warm up I can still do the splits.
That 'Artistic Gymnastics' though is a complete waste of space - all balls and ribbons cr@p.
I'm more dissapointed in our eventing team - one of the strongest teams and yet we're placed fourth at the moment (last time I looked).

I think all sports are like that to stay at the top you have to dedicate pretty much all your time to training etc etc.
I'm watcihng the womens cycle race at the moment, its slashing it with rain and they are going down like skittles.

the gymnastics are great probably my favourite part of the olympics, the dudes on the rings are amazing i dont think most people appreciate the strengh required to do what they do.

Has anyone noticed the daily changes to the Google banner to co-incide with the games?
They are showing a different sport with a different animal from the chinese calender...
... sniggered my socks off this morning when I saw that today's is a cow doing that 'Artistic Gymnastics' carp. :D
hmmm dodgy scoring....
joe murray boxing a home boy, he was given a standing count for a shot that shouldnt have even scored against him let alone a standing count....the chinese boy was just swinging wildly, no style...the points show an absolute mullering! murray put in some good shots which didnt even register....
very dodgy indeed.

Some dodgy scoring going on elsewhere too. One of the syncro diving judges hated us and while most other executions judges were giving 7.5, 8's she gives 5. mmm something not quite right there.

Yeah what a bitch! He really aught to examine the footage of each dive, because the amount of splash he threw up was consistently more than young Tom. According to the BBC 'expert' splash is a big no-no and costs a lot of marks.
But this is the only discord in the camp at present (that I'm aware of) and I'm sure he will put back 'on message'. I just hope this does not affect Tom Daley's performance in the individual event.

Funnily enough every brit competing in the canoe slalom is a scot.
Cambell Walsh, David Florence (Silver WAHOO), and Fiona who is competing at this very moment.

Even better, I think it was in one of the Shooting competitions that there was a Russian and Georgian next to each other on the podium - only they are good friends apparently as they used to compete together on the old Soviet Union team!

What's THE defining event of the Olympics?
I always rate the Mens relay sprint as the most important. No idea why..
What's THE defining event of the Olympics?
I believe the Mens 100 metres is considered the blue riband event.
My god that was a quick 100 metres. Wasnt even trying all the way! Think we might see it dip under 9.5 quite soon with Bolt.

Celebrating 10m from the line and still 9.69 - if he kept his head down, I'm with you on 9.5 rob. He makes it look absolutely effortless!
Reckon he might get Michael Johnson's WR at the 200 too and that's stood for ages.
Great day for us too - the cyclists et al really turned it on. Great stuff.
For me today, the rowing was the best. It was awesome how the men's coxless four came from behind, wife daughter & me hollering at the TV, it was a fantastic achievement to thrash the Aussies:cool:

quite. i think she was bloody selfish too. knackered leg, no training, admitted she wasnt ready but still took part anyway. why not give her place to somebody else to give them experience before 2012? dunno if its that simple but i thought she was embarassing.....

+1. There was someone lined up ready to run if Paula wasn't fully fit. Maybe the reserve (can't remember her name) would not have won, but at least she was fully fit. By running when she knew she was not in the slightest prepared, Paula has done someone else out of the opportunity to run at the olympics, which may be a once in a lifetime opportunity. That's just selfish imo.

I disagree. I don't think many people could have put that level of dedication in for that run. Reputably over 6 hours of training a day! No one knew how she would cope; least of all herself.
This woman is the world record holder and could have won by an easy 10 mins if she was on form. She's now 34 and could well never race again, never mind make another olympics. She's held the crown for Britain for a long time, and deserves every ounce of respect for finishing that race.

have you listened to her interview afterwards ? she admitted she knew she'd never be able to compete and suprised herself that she even finished. selfish and self centred. she had her chances previously to win a gold but choked for whatever reason.
i'm putting it in black and white and coming across harsher than intended, but the main point remains she should never have won
anyhoo...

put it into further context
1. china - approx 650 athletes competing
2. USA - approx 630 athletes competing
3. England - approx 330 athletes competing
4. Auz - approx 430 athletes competing
go team england!
*does a little dance*
So what we got that we can win more medals in?
Looks like a minimum bronze in the boxing heavyweights
Triple jump
think there's another cycling gold or two to be had. the lassie who beat the other british lassie is a nailed on
triple jump our boy is the favorite...
think there's two boxers in with medal shouts
chappie is pretty good at the 400m, altho 2012 is more likely to be at his best
